Admission entrance to this place is very confusing. I am not fluent in Russian but I can understand most of what people are saying. This place had a number of different admission prices. And the woman selling them just kept talking way too fast! Why not just one admission fee for children and adults instead of a number of different ones for different people? It did look really cool inside. What a big disappointment!

Like many museums here there isn't one price, you pay by exhibit. However they charge more for non-Ukranians. The exhibits are fine, everything is in Russian as expected, but you will pay more just for not speaking Russian. The best exhibits were closed with no explanation and the staff wasn't friendly.

If you have a few hours to spare in town, this is one place you don't want to miss. The museum building, though aged, has a variety of collections in 4 floors from ancient time to modern Ukraine. Some may think WWII era artifacts truly intriguing, as Kharkiv was one of the most fiercely fought city in Eastern Europe.

An interesting place to visit however the explanation of the exhibits is in Russian and the staff are still very Soviet style, I was lucky my friend could speak good English so I had it translated,but it is still worth a visit. Of course across the road from it is Kharkivs second Irish bar which again has great food and drink and now has Irish music which I brought to them.

They have some really cool stuff in here, but it is a shame that almost none of it is written in English. On the 3rd floor they have some signs in English, so that was nice. It's definitely worth a visit, but don't expect smiling and helpful service.

Conveniently located in the city centre next to Istoricheskiy Muzei metro station, not far from Pokrovsky and Assumption Cathedrals. I came here for the announced Scythian exhibition to only discover the new premises it was supposed to take place in under construction. But the main exhibition surely deserves to be seen, and it has rich Scythian collection, too. Very specific admission and photo policy. Each of the 8 exhibitions is priced separately. So you can either choose to see specific hall(s) of your interest, or get a pack of tickets for the entire museum for UAH 64 or ca US$ 7.8 for foreigners (as of Dec 13). There’s a separate price for taking photos – each shot is priced and their number is limited. Few rare exhibits cannot be captured at all.Among the exhibitions I found the most interesting were archaeological collection, inclusive of museum’s own excavations and rare findings (like whole burial mounds, or Scythian akinak sword) from nearby “horodishcha” (hill forts) (1st floor), the exhibition dedicated to Kharkiv in XIX century (3rd floor) and a small hall on the 4th floor with unique relics of the Cossack period. The latter includes XVII century Hetman Mazepa ceremonial flag of 7.5 sq m, which was recently partially restored by Krakow renovators who basically saved it. This flag is now carefully preserved in the closed glass window. Make sure you see it before it disappears with time! Don’t miss an outdoor military equipment exhibition around museum, inclusive of WWI period Mark V English tank, WWII period T-34 Soviet tank and several guns.

This museum is a showpiece of the region, from Neolithic, Scythian to WWII. The museum's east side building is now covered with glass ceiling and facade, much like a contemporary European museum, which is still under construction. You will see a well-preserved T34/76 Soviet tank, which is designed and built in Kharkiv, just outside of the museum entrances.

Covers the history of Kharkov well, this city has some very beautiful parts to it and the industry here is among the best in the world . The T34 was designed here , there is aircraft manufacture ,trains , space craft , a strong cultural history ! Interesting place !
