i visited sevastopol with my friend when we were students, couple of years ago. i like greek history, architecture and everything connected with greece, so we decided to visit this ancient greek city. the city is located on the seashore (there is also a beach), at the entrance there is a orthodox church (worth-visiting, too). you can see a lot of ruins of houses, temple, winery and defensive towers. it's quite a busy place, there always a lot of tourists. you can also buy souvenirs (i've bought ashtray with greek-style pictures and inscriptions) and see other small items, that are exhibited aside

This is a beautiful place right by the sea. Even if you are not into history, it makes a lovely walk, especially in summer. Well preserved and kept, this is a must see visit if you are in the area.

We visited Chersonesus because we thought it would make a relaxing change. However, we did find it a bit tricky to get to as we had gone to Sebastapol from Yalta, and finding the right taxi-bus seemed to be impossible. We therefore took a taxi (returning was fine as it was obvious where the taxi-bus went from).The site is huge, and it seemed a little strange to us that there's a spanking new Church right in the middle of it.There is very little shade, so on a sunny day it is relentless. We found a tiny nook on the beach to shelter in and had a lovely swim, but the guidebook's promise of 'swimming amongst the ruins' is a wee bit of an exaggeration! More like swimming over ruins covered in seaweed! You really don't feel like you're having a special experience!It was nice to have a break from the grim history of this part of the world, but if you want to see Greek temples then maybe the Crimea is not the place to go!

Go prepare for a good walk under the sun.a mixture of greek, roman and byzantine ruins just by the beach awaits you.

I was taken to this ancient ruin as part of a Black Sea cruise excursion. Unfortunately I visited Ephesus a few days earlier, so this was not as impressive as one expected. The size of the whole site was smaller than Ephesus as this was just a village. There was a museum building that housed most of the artifacts. There was good documentation of the artifacts. The site itself was excavated partially. It was situated on the shores of the Black Sea and the view was impressive.

The ruins are fascinating, and they have not even finished escavating yet. There is still quite alot left to uncover! The church is majestic! The inside, especially the upsatirs section is amazing. There happened to be a lady reciting some prayers there and the acoustics are soo good up there that it sounded like she was singing and it just resounded everywhere...And then the wild beach is lovely and serene. You can swim and laze about there and just enjoy the views. There was some guy there who mints coins for souvenirs, and he is dressed in a sailors outfit. He his deeply tanned and is happy to take pictures with the ladies!

An impressive 6th century BC ruins on the Black Sea, that is a worthwhile visit for history buffs. Use of your imagination is required as this a remnant site, that is nonetheless well preserved in terms of its layout and expanse. If you are looking for a replica site then this is not your ideal destination, but if you take the time to do just a little bit of research before arriving here, then it is well worth your time. The nearby St. Vladimir's cathedral is magnificent and is a must see. It is unfortunate that here as is the case throughout Ukraine, most citizens use the natural environment as a dumping ground for their trash. It certainly detracts from my personal enjoyment and I do not understand why this negative behaviour is tolerated.

In comparison with Jerash or Pompeii, Chersonesos' ruins look very common. Lots of towns in Provence have something similar. But the history behind Chersonesos is fascinating. If you know it, walking along the ruins have a different meaning. And the view on Sevastopol's harbor is awesome. Worth visiting if you know the story. Definitely worth visiting if you haven't seen the ruins of an ancient town before.
