I came here with a friend in february, which is a relatively quiet time compared to other times of the year. There was a Breslov wedding that night which was small compared to other weddings, and anyone can attend. It was very lively with loud music and dancing - Breslov style. Prayer by the tomb of Rebbi Nachman is also uplifting. I'm looking forward to hopefully return one day for Rosh Hashana. There is a place with some free food, and nearby store ("Minimarket") with only Kosher food (although a bit on the expensive side).

Suddenly, you find yourself in Israel, not in rural Ukraine. All signs are in Hebrew, people wear black hats and side-locks, families with tens of small children, etc. And everyone is asking you to give money, whether it the praying Jews or the locals who make their living on the praying Jews. Beware, don't give out too much.

Coming to the site of Rabbi Nachman's grave is a very spiritual experience. As such it is also very very personal. Coming the first time and every time after that has completely changed my life and my view of things.

The surroundings and structures look shabby. A lot of prayng males (females are in a separate room!). It is an experience to someone who are interested in Anthropology...

According to Rabbi Nachman of Breslev, a famous Chassidic sage who lived about 230 years ago, any Jew who visits his tomb and recites 10 chapters from the biblical Book of Psalms will be rewarded with good fortune. Rabbi Nachman emphasized that the most appropriate time to visit his tomb is the Jewish new year. Thousands of pilgrims from all walks of life and all religious persuasals within Judaism spend the Jewish new year praying at the tomb of Rabbi Nachman in improvised synagogues and even in the streets in the hope that the undertaking givien by the sgae some 200 years ago will materialize for themselves. Basic accommodation cna be found in private houses and apartemnts owned by local residents of Uman who hire out beds in their homes for the new year period. Meals can be had in huge tent-restaurants where 4000 are served traditional meals for a pittance. Accommodation and meals are of secondary importance. The pilgrims spend their time praying at the tomb of the sage in the hope that his undertaking will come true and that the new year will hold good tidings in store for them. The atmosphere is relaxed and a feeling of brotherhood pervades among the vistors despite the fact that all are strangers and do not know each other and all copme from different walks of life and religious levels of observance. The common denominator is to have a spiritual experience and to utilize their time in prayer and introspection in anticipation of a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. recommended for all of the Jewish faith who are prepared to experience something new and spiritual.

Удивительно, но каждый год это место притягивает огромное количество верующих-хасидов из разных точек мира - в основном Израиль, конечно. Творится полный дурдом - но жители Умани рады: можно заработать кучу денег за неделю. В другое время тут тихо и спокойно. Интересно однажды побывать.

Пошёл из любопытства. Благо хасиды из Америки , с которыми познакомился в гостинице, охотно взялись всё показать и рассказать. Сама могил с исторической точки зрения интереса не представляет (все новодел). А вот атмосфера.. Такое ощущение, что сел в машину времени и оказался в 18-ом веке в маленьнок хасидском городке ) Было интересно.

С религиозной точки зрения это место мне было не известно, попала сюда случайно, но из любопытства посетила женскую часть. Просто комната для молитв.Поразила общая атмосфера вокруг этого места (попали туда прямо во время праздника). Полное перемешение в еврейскую страну: вывески на чужом языке, все встречные на улице - ортодоксальные хасиды в соответствующей одежде, хасидские дети, женщины....

Если вы далеки от Иудаизма , и место не представляет для вас религиозной цености , то не обязательно туда ездить . Как и все в Иудаизме и все построики деляться на женскую часть и мужскую. Я посетила женскую часть. Небольшая комната , где моляться женщины с кучей детей из этой комнаты ( святого места) просто превратили в комнату как в любой неухоженной квартире. Можно сесть помолиться попросить о том чем нуждаетесь и все . Но если же вам все это очень дорого и вы верите , то конечно же посетите это место , для таких людей оно будет уникально. На еврейский новый год вы туда не попадете , тысячу поломников прилетают со всего мира , атмосфера сумашедшая , концентрация удивитильной энергии вас не покинет не на секунду.
