The Valparaiso Heritage and Interpretation Center in the Villa Victoria is a family operation run by Kenneth and Victoria Pugh. They have spent more than a year lovingly restoring one of the few houses to have survived the 1906 earthquake and, as a family in period costume, interpret Valparaiso history. They do it in the best way, through stories and a nice multimedia presentation. Before and after our tour Victoria treated us to coffee and tea. They even have Internet. This is an excellent way to get to know and understand Valparaiso. After the tour we sat down with a map of Valparaiso and they gave me a much better idea of how to get around than the people at the tourist information bureau. After the tour we were able to set out on our own to find some of the places they talked about and gain a much better understanding of where we were and why it was important. I strongly recommend this house as an introduction to Valparaiso.

This renovated Victorian house was a labour of love for Kenneth Pugh and his wife Victoria. The building itself has a fascinating history, but Kenneth and Victoria have used it as a backdrop to bring to life the history of this fascinating city. You can end your visit in the charming cafe within the property and enjoy some home-cooked cakes.

We had the pleasure to participate in the guided tour at Villa Victoria. The owners have done an outstanding job restore an old building into a state as it might have been in the golden age of Valpariso. This is not a dusty old place, but it is a living museum thanks to the passion and effort Kenneth and Victoria put into the tour. Presenting this little treasure in historical wardrobes, offering Mate tea as it was the custom then, during the tour, and ending in the large kitchen with a snack. While Victoria truly performs in the Spanish version, Ken presents the stories and anecdotes in excellent English. This is a mast-to-to see when visiting Valpo!

Nuestro grupo integrado por ex alumnas del Santiago College ('70) fue recibido de forma especial y cariñosa por Kenneth y María Victoria, dueños de la Casona. Ellos, a través de un emocionante recorrido por las salas de Villa Victoria, con gran orgullo y brillante dominio de la historia, nos relataron de forma muy entretenida los acontecimientos históricos, costumbres y oficios del Valparaíso del siglo XIX. Impresiona la gran restauración de la casona, donde se respetó su arquitectura tanto en su interior como exteriormente. Junto con esto, nos mostraron una muy interesante colección de objetos y herramientas relacionadas con los oficios de la época. Nos llena de orgullo que exista tal testimonio de los más esplendorosos años de Valparaíso y tan bien preservado por sus actuales dueños.
