We visited four wine regions in October in Chile and this winery was our favourite. Where to start? First Osvaldo Marin (brother of the owner) was a wonderful guide for the two of us. So informative, such depth of knowledge, so proud of his family's endeavors and a true gentleman in every way. The tasting room is one of the nicest I have seen. Gracious, elegant, historical and simply beautiful. The added works of stunning mosaic art are simply extraordinary. Now to the wines. We simply did not taste anything that wasn't exceptional. The accompanying tasting food helped cleanse the palate and we were left with what seems to be other's turmoil: Which ones to take back home (in this case, Canada, two bottles each :-( My husband who adores wine, truly fell in love with the Sauvignon Gris, so hard to find anywhere and is just magical to taste. The Pinot is also out-of-this world. We bought 6 bottles (four to drink during our remaining time in Chile and two (of the four) to take back to Canada.I highly recommend this winery. It is so unassuming compared to the flashier wineries in other regions, but the beauty, the setting, the pride taken in this winery so close to the ocean and Osvaldo made it our most enjoyable winery visit and tour of the 16 wineries we visited. A bit out of the way however, the drive is magnificent and you will not be disappointed!

I first discovered Casa Marin on a list of "world's best winery hotels". Little did I know that, when we left the Colchagua Valley (the "best" wine region in Chile, according to conventional wisdom) to take the 3 hour drive north-west to Lo Abarca, we'd be stumbling on to the biggest (and most delightful) surprise of our trip: the wine at Casa Marin was, hands down, our favourite wine in Chile. It may even have been our favourite wine in South America. The secret comes from the particularly mineral-rich soil in Lo Abarca, and from the daily temperature fluctuations, both caused by the valley's proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The wines are crisp, rich, flavourful, and unique - one sip of the one-of-a-kind sauvignon blanc (with a hint of asparagus (!!) on the nose) is reason enough to visit. We didn't end up staying at the hotel (a gorgeous cottage up a hill that has a view of the ocean), because the previous night's rain had rendered the road up to the cottage entirely impassable. Not to be outdone by Mother Nature, the incredibly generous people at Casa Marin arranged a room for us at the frankly stunning "Winery Boutique Hotel" about 30 minutes north of Lo Abarca in Algarrobo. The balcony was almost literally perched right over the Pacific Ocean. The list of superlatives in the English language is not sufficient to express how excited we are that we discovered Casa Marin; we'll definitely be paying another visit in the not-too-distant future.

We were given a tour of the winery, the wine-making process, the bottling process, and got to sample some of their award-winning wines. Good luck finding a better bottle of pinot noir or sauvignon blanc! My only dislike is the fact that I couldn't taste everything that they make or take enough with me when I flew back home.

We had an excellent tour at Casa Marin! Violeta was so helpful and responsive in organizing the tour and they remained open late for us because we got super lost getting there (dont rely on Google maps, apparently Waze is better). Osvaldo was a very informative tour guide and the wines were amazing, especially the Pinot Noir and Sauv Gris. Wish the weather had been better so we could have seen more of the property!

At the start of the harvest season visiting a winery is always wonderful. The temperatures are still great and you already get an idea of what the new wines are going to bring. We went to the winery with a group and were able to pick some grapes ourselves and tasted them as well. It looks like we are getting some great wines the coming year. The always friendly staff of this small but exclusive winery provided us with a more than luxurious lunch together with a tasting of their best wines. The Sauvignon blanc and Gris were indeed excellent. Cheese, empanadas, salad and meat all served in small buffet arrangement proofed to be of very good quality. The service of the local waitresses was dedicated and always with a smile. An exception these days in most restaurants. We were offered some discount for the wine and took the opportunity to stock our cupboards with some could stuff.Well done, the trip, the food and the wine. Thank you
