It was nicely done, the streets are set up for people to walk on, though I didn't notice much activity around lunchtime, maybe when they have events or some other sort of activity (nighttime might be better), there are a couple of restaurants and pubs that looked interesting. I didn't have too much time to investigate but there were also a couple of museums along the way.

There's really no charm or cuteness to this pedestrian street. It's crummy, unappealing and uninviting. If there are interesting or charming parts of this town - I missed them.

Many of the storefronts are closed and badly in need of repair. But there are plenty of signs that this is an area that is slowly being rejuvenated. The new downtown with its modern towers is some distance away, and this abandoned old town is slowly developing into a tourist attraction.

Unusually well preserved historic street, well maintained as a pedestrian area, running from the beach to the central square. Hotels, restaurants/bars, little museums, street vendors of crafts and strange tatty "antiques", all within a few minutes walk.

This street lined with old, brightly colored Gregorian-style buildings hails back to the nitrate mining days that made Iquique so desirable that Peru, Bolivia and Chile fought a war over this and the rest of what is now northern Chile. Wooden sidewalks and abandoned streetcar tracks evoke a Wild West that is so familiar, yet so... Chilean? Yet another way this country challenges Latin stereotypes. As picturesque as Baquedano Street is, the southern end near the ocean is a bit dead. There are few restaurants, bars or shops as most of the historic buildings are occupied by schools and universities. All of the liveliness is located at the northern end of the street near Plaza Prat. During my several strolls up and down this street, I noticed a knot of electrical cables hanging lower and lower until several lines were just laying on the ground. If you have kids, watch them closely. If your hotel is on this street, get travel insurance. This is an accident waiting to happen.

Nice streets and beautiful and well preserved houses. Nice place to walk during daylight, I'm not sure if it is safe to walk at night.

This street could be perfect. The wooden boardwalk, the colorful old wooden houses. But as so often nothing is thought through. Most of the buildings are falling apart (in a bad way, just paint your walls guys!!) The electricity wires are hanging around in every scene. The buildings are only half way constructed such that the ground floor looks like the perfect nice hotel and the first floor is without falls and with trash on it and a half broken iron roof. I have seen that so often in SA and a lot in this street.Good idea and it could be wonderful and even magical at night. But they have to get they stuff together to make it happen!

Baquedano street is really nice to get a sense of the old city. But the main attraction there is the Regional Museum, which is a must if you want to know more about the original cultures of the area, and the salitre era that shaped the old city of Iquique. I highly recommend it. (I hope that TA will make an entry for it under attractions. In the meantime I attach some pictures. Enjoy)

You'll be forgiven if you thought you had wandered onto the set of a old, western movie. With every turn you make on Baquedano Street, you almost expect to see a couple of cowboys slinging guns or the occasional blacksmith shaping horseshoes. Quaint clapboard houses, a wooden boardwalk and old-fashioned street lamps complete the look. Simply beautiful.

Lovely architecture and fun to see kids out and about dancing in the square. I was there on a Sunday though so little was open.
