Located in Plaza de Armas and is the seat of the Archdiscese of Santiago. Constructed 1748, as 4 previous ones on this spot were destroyed by earthquakes beginning in 1528. Stunning baroque interior, stands up beautifully to European cathedrals. Mass daily, times posted at entry.. *Had the lovely experience of Ash Wednesday Mass here last week with Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati Andrello officiating.

Beautiful and very large Cathedral on a lovely square. This is one of those opulent Churches that shows the excesses of the days when the church ruled Chile.

We (I and my wife and friends) visited the Cathedral which is in Armes Plaza. There's restoration work being done on the outside but the inside is great. Nice place for a break. No restaurants in the near, don't go at lunch time.

Chile is a very Christian place and visiting the cathedral is a must if you are taking a walking tours of the city. It is right on the square so you can't miss it. There are several ornate altars which many people like. Other side altars represent many saints in the Catholic Church.
