It was expensive, dark, no photos, filming erc allowed, everywhere sign saying: No ..... NO ........ and dark rooms were video controlled. Not a very nice athmosphere. The maritim Museum in Punta Arenas was much much better.

Good explanations of the history of the area, flora and fauna.

Funny slippers + ill organized museum + inhospitable guides = an hour I will never have back.. Seriously, it wasn't great.. I may have been a wee bit cranky though, so if old furniture is up your alley, don't let this review stop you.

I needed more time to peruse the mansion and listen to the well-done audio guide. You have to wear funny little slippers to protect the floors. Once you finish the top floor, there is a sprawling basement with servants' quarters and art displays to explore.

This is the neoclassical palace of the Braun family who filled their mansion with the best of late 19th century furnishings. They not only imported arts and furniture, but hired skilled European craftsmen to carve marble fireplaces and hang tooled leather walls. You are provided a booklet and allowed to wander about at your own pace. At one time there was a small cafe in what had been the servants quarters, the cafe is no longer open. We enjoyed walking about the mansion.
