We visited the observatory in january 2015 and had an excellent experience. The small office in town arranged a local translator for us free of charge to translate the guided tour in Spanish into English. However, we didn't get the impression that this is a regular service provided, so we might have been extra lucky in that sense. That being said, the place in itself is worth the trip because of the beautiful location and the amazing views through the big telescope.

We had a good visit to the observatory - but due to our limited Spanish we didn't get as much out of it as all the Spanish speakers. This was no fault of the observatory. The evening starts when the doors open at 9 pm. This is what our ticket said - but nothing happens until 9.30. There is a video about the creation of the universe, and then a talk about some basic constellations. The video has english subtitles so it was ruined only by the Chilean obsession/need to video tape everything with their smartphones. The constellation talk was in Spanish, but you could get the gist, and they had these laser pointers to point right at the stars so that was very cool. We then broke into two groups, and were able to see 4 different things through the giant telescope. The first two were stars, the third was the moon and finally Jupiter. After this our guide found us and explained things to us in his best English which was very much appreciated.Overall a fun night, but given my limited Spanish it felt about 2 hours too long. I'd be willing to pay more to have a private experience.

Unlike the big, university and consortium-run observatories to the north (themselves certainly worth a visit-if you can), you actually get to use a telescope. The nice, young guide was also the first to really explain to me how to use the Southern Cross!

Cruz del Sur was the third observatory that we visited in our Chilean travel and It was the best. A really good video about the astronomy, a really interesting view of the sky. A really good experience, also because there are not so many tourist and you can have a better experience than in Mamalluca.

Hermoso lugar para aprender del Universo. Personal muy amable y dispuesto a atender todas las dudas, fuimos con niños pequeños y había mucha disposición a hacernos cómodo el tour.

He ido varias veces a otros observatorio (Mamalluca por ejemplo) pero este lo encontré muy bueno, místico.Las entradas cuestan $4000 los adultos y hay que compralas en la plaza de armas de Combarbalá, al lado de Carabineros. Recomiendo tomar el tour de las 21hrs (hay otro a las 23hrs) y llegar unos 15 minutos antes ya que cuando te estas aproximando al observatorio tienes la oportunidad de ver un anochecer increible: cielos azules con rojo y y naranja con el observatorio de fondo. Ideal para fotos.El tour se divide en tres partes: una breve película (entrete, ok), una charla en un mini anfiteatro abierto al estilo griego (místico, genial) y observación por el telescopio (espectacular).La charla en en anfiteatro con toda la espectacularidad de los cielos la encontré demasiada buena. Aprendí muchas cosas nuevas. Los guías se pasaron en tratar de enseñar las cosas de una forma entretenida y que todos entendieramos. Muy muy bueno.La observación por telescopio fue genial. Los instrumentos son de buena calidad. Antes, en otras oportunidades, pude ver Jupiter con sus lunas, pero ahora pude observar las franjas de color café que estan en el ecuador del planeta. Espectacular!!!Totalmente, 100% recomendable. Imperdible!!

Llegamos a Combarbalá coincidiendo con la fiesta por los 6 años del Observatorio. Fue fantástico!!!! Subimos al atardecer, participamos de la presentación de un conjunto folklorico de la serena que nos encantó!! Luego se abrieron las puertas de los distintos telescopios y pudimos ver ese cielo mágico, tachonado de estrellas!!! Mucha paciencia, disposición y conocimineot del personal del laboratorio quecompartieron ocn todos los asistentes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Volveré!!!

Una noche mágica, en donde aprendimos de la forma mas moderna, el cielo y sus estrellas. El guía nos enseño cada estrella y sus nombres, para que servían en la antigüedad y que significaban. Luego pasamos a los telescopios, en donde mis hijas quedaron maravilladas con las clases y la vista.Mis hijas aprendieron lo que no habían aprendido en la escuela y de la forma mas interactiva; en vivo y en directo.Nunca había visto tantas estrellas, satélites, estrellas fugases y aviones (jiji) en un cielo sin luna.

Excelentes guías, muy educativos, las instalaciones estaban muy lindas, y también contaban con muy buen material visual. Pero lo más llamativo era el cielo despejado y lleno de estrellas de esa zona, sin duda una experiencia fascinante.

Tour nocturno muy bien organizado, con muy buenos guías, con uso personal de telescopios modernos, Muy interesante y muy recomendable. Es un must en Combarbalá.
