Compared to Teatro Colon or other national theaters, the Teatro Municipal is a let down, but, for Paraguay, it is very nice. I've seen various performances there and the accoustics are generally good, the facilities are clean, and the a/c works.

This is the place to see classical and traditional peformances (and some more modern stuff sometimes) in Asuncion.It´s a classy old theatre, but the sound system isn´t terribly great, so don´t go in with expectations that are TOO high in that regard.It can be rather locked up when you want to buy tickets in the afternoon (even when the box office IS staffed), but get the attention of someone inside and they´ll direct you to a back door you can use to reach the box office.Nice little cafe/bar on the side.

Walk by this place, ask if there are any shows going on, and go see a show if there are. There are frequent symphonies, concerts, plays, operas, etc, and all are reasonably priced. It is just a nice, old fashioned (reminds me of the 1930's for some reason) place to see a show.

Box office has limited hours...generally around times of events. I did manage to see a local modern dance production and the theater was nice..modern with a good layout. The production was OK..but I was there mainly to share in the lives of the locals.

The theatre is cool. Loads of detail on the facade and love the colours. You can see Asuncion in a day and this needs to be on your itinerary.

We saw an interesting concert between Asuncion's professional symphony orchestra (OSCA) and the police band. A remodeled, older theater, it has a lovely feeling on intimacy.

In fact I only saw the whle of Assuncion from the outside,(except for the cabildo museum) that' why I am returning to the city in January 2012. This time for wonderful pictures
