This Plaza has been coverted into a political strong hold of opposition students but due to local government authority it is well maintained, clean and is a quite safe area. Close by services available is the subway which permits to and from access. No food or drink available except for street sales

Well maintained, colorfull, noisy, crowded at some hours, there is a Metrro station in its underground. Surrounded for most beautifull and some historic buildings of the city. Plaza Altamira is an Icon for Democracy and Freedom of Speech.

Caracas is not a great turistic city, but it have its moments and little corners. This place, well known by locals because its political charge of anti-goverment movements, is a good starting point for walking the neigborhood of "Chacao". It have a nice french style and good restaurants and coffee shops to spend a calm afternoon.

The plaza is located in Altamira, a middle class neighborhood in the east part of the city. The plaza has a subway entrance and it's surrounded by hotels, restaurants, bakeries and cultural spaces such as Centro cultural la estancia, the CELARG and Centro cultural corp banca (which offers from live concerts to flower shows). Due to the heavy traffic around it, it's better to visit during weekends, when it is frequently used for book shows and live concerts, specially during holidays such as carnival, semana Santa and Christmas. Conveniently located above a subway station, it is easily accessible using line 1. Recommend to visit during the day or late afternoon, when the tropical weather of the city and the view of the avila mountain can be enjoyed, trying to blend in using common sense, although it is considered a safe place due to the high volume of people that go there.

The plaza itself is nice, it has trees and benches, a fountain and an obelisk. It also has an entrance to a subway station. During the day, there's always people selling ice cream. The problem is it's right next to a very concurred avenue and so, during the morning and early afternoon it's surrounded by traffic and and noise. I'd say it's nice to visit after 5 pm, but of course, like everywhere else in Caracas, you have to be careful 'cause the later it is, the more insecure it gets, even though Altamira is one of the less insecure zones in the city.
