This National Park actually covers a huge portion of Merida and Barinas states. For this reason you will find all kinds of landscapes depending on the area where you enter the altitude that you manage to reach and your personal abilities. So the landscapes cover everything from flatlands, rain and cloud forests, moors, rocky mountain tops, waterfalls, lakes, as well as quaint hamlets and small towns. It is, therefore, possible for everybody to find something to their liking. If you are into climbing, hiking, white-water rafting, horse-riding, or simply walking and sight-seeing, you will not be disappointed. If you are doing the most advanced stuff (climbing or hiking), it is advisable to take a guide with you. The terrain may be difficult, and also people have difficulty adjusting to the lack of oxygen, so it is important to be with someone who knows what to do if things get rough. Also, the weather conditions can vary radically from one moment to the next so it is advisable to go prepared for temperature swings (from very hot and sunny to very cold or even chilly) and/or heavy rain. Don't forget to use your sunscreen if you are walking in the mountain as people forget they can get badly sunburnt because of the altitude. Climbing and hiking is more common in Merida state while white-water rafting is Barinas state's specialty. One problem with this park is that Venezuelans have a horrible habit of littering so you may find a lot of trash in camping sites or pathways. It is really up to you to not let this ruin your day. Park rangers try to keep the place clean but especially after a tourist season, things can get a bit too much. Regardless of this, the views and nature are stunning, animals and plants are quite unique, and the little towns around the park are charming.

Beautiful 2day trip that rides up to the top of Pico Bolivar on mule, then return on foot. A great rustic way to spend time in the natural beauty of Merida.

we love it. It was very cold, take scarfs with you. And hats. And gloves. It was amazing. Go with your friends and have an amazing trip. Visit the laguna. Drink a hot chocolate. Take cameras. Stop at the pico àguila.

The whole park is breathtaking with majestic mountains, beautiful waterfalls and interesting plants. It's a great place to hike around or at least drive through. I wish I would have spent more than a day there. But warning if you plan on camping it can get very very cold at night.

We took a tour with andes tropicales.org. The trip started at Santa Maria de Canagua in the Barinas state and ended in Gavidia comunity in Merida state. We took an airplane from Caracas to Barinas Airport and them we went to Santa Maria de Canagua by car. It was a 60 km walking and riding trip (mules) inside the Venezuelan Andes montains, starting at 600 mts height and ending at 3350 mts. The hightest point was at 3670 meters. All the trip is assisted by local guides (called baquianos) and we sleeped in Mucuposadas, farmer houses specially aconditionated for turists. The food at mucuposadas was cooked with local ingredients like trout, smoked and fresh cheese, and local vegetables. It is an amazing and safe travel to share with family.

We stayed nearby for our honeymoon, and it was a great place to stay. Fresh air is nice, temperature is also great. You can escape from crowdy and loud spaces just going there.

It was freezing becuase of the high altitude and rain so hard so it was difficult for me to walk. It took me over 2 hours to get back at the end of the trail and I was the last one to get back on th etour bus. My left leg got stuck in the mud on the edge of the lake .I love the fauna especially the bright flowers along the way.
