It's a cute little zoo that has all your basic zoo animals. But that's about it. The zoo was nice to see but it didn't take long to see all of it.

If you want to spend a morning, afternoon or even a full day, you can go there and see the animals. The climate is nice, so you can enjoy your time there.

The escaped animals were the best. A beautiful setting.

I lived in Mérida for several years and went to Chorros de Milla a couple of times (mostly for work-related issues). Although the park has tried hard to make it a better place for the animals, these live in very precarious conditions, typical of zoos in developing countries. If you care for animal welfare, then you shouldn't go there. It will make your heart shrink.

I rated our experience as "terrible" because I really really felt awful about most of the animals in this zoo. The landscaping is great, the place is clean, but most of the enclosures are RIDICULOUSLY SMALL. Several of the large cats had cages no more than 2 or 3 body lengths across, with barren concrete floors and steel mesh walls. The same with many of the bird enclosures. Ironically, the turtles had more room than the lions!! The zoo grounds are very large--there is plenty of available land and space around most cages. They could easily be made larger and more species-friendly.Do not support this zoo by visiting, or at least tell them about these problems as you're leaving. (We visited in April 2007.)

Took the local bus from el centro for 500 Bs each (less than a dollar total US) Zoo was small by US standards, but clean and almost all animals were native to Venezuela, and therefore in their native area. Exceptions were the lions that were donated as somone no longer wanted to keep them as pets. They feed them every other day and we were there to watch them eat. <you can get very close and it is your responsibility not to stick hands in cages and become part of the meal. Spent several relaxing hours there and thoroughly enjoyed. Zoo is crowded in afternoons, so mornings are a bit more leisurely.

The zoo in Merida has a very unique setting... up a mountain. You walk along a path going uphill and pass cages with animals inside them along the way. It is a very nice setting and it's clean.But... I had a problem with the size of the cages. There was a huge bear with barely enough room to turn around. I'm not a tree-hugger, but I do care about animals. Besides the tiny confinments, this zoo is worth a visit. You can get very close to the cages.

Lo que más me gusto del zoo fueron sus cascadas y el ambiente natural que tiene, los animales están muy bien conservados, Divino!!!
