I found this place very unconventional and interesting. Anyway I recommend to go with some locals because it's unsafe to go by yourself.

There is not much information about this place even from the locals. I asked in many parts of the city about it and most of them did not know anything about it. Even the taxi driver took me until "Las Flores", thinking that perhaps I meant that place because it is beside Magdalena river; even though I asked in Spanish. At Las Flores there is an old "tram" service, but because of my short time availability I decided to go on a motorbike, there are guys who will take you there on their motorbikes, it is faster and they will tell you some facts about the place as a tour guide. Bear in mind that the motorbike will ride on the tram lines for most of the journey and this can be dangerous and a bit painful for your back-end. The tram or motorbike will take you to some pont then if you want to reach the end of the port you will have to walk for aprox 30min. It is not a pleasant walk due to the bad conditions of the port, practically neglected by the locals and authorities. When I reached the end of the port I saw some fisher men having a great time. I enjoyed the view of Pacific Ocean and Magdalena River, a bit of calm after the journey.Nature should not be underrated because the locals or authorities do not care about the status of this port. I am glad I could visit this place. Hopefully the prosperity of Barranquilla reaches this port one day.

On our visit to Barranquilla, we had a unique opportunity to visit to Bocas de Ceniza where the Rio Magdalena joins the Caribbean Sea, on a “Pilot Boat.” The day was a typical warm and sunny day but by the time we arrived at the pier’s turned to be very windy. Two pilots were aboard the small vessel ready to meet a big cargo ship coming from USA and guide it through the tricky and dangerous route of Bocas de Ceniza, to the port. The scenery navigating to the river is beautiful with small villages on the banks of the river. At we progressed, the river the weather was getting windier and the water aggressive; by the time we arrived at the mouth of the sea, big waves covered our small boat and we felt like we were in a toy boat at their mercy. The captain was amazing skillful and give us a feeling of security. The two pilots stepped outside while the captain maneuvered the boat closer to the ship without been too close or the boat will crash and the pilots ‘life will be put at risk. I was so alert to see them jump but they were so fast, next blink they were walking on the side of the ship already. Incredible!A ride on the river at Bocas de Ceniza is very pleasant with the lovely scenery; a good sun block is a must. I recommend taking a turist boat ride in a good day, you won’t be disappointed.

Its not easy to get there, and you will see this when you willtake the train:)) The train is something like a big box with an engine that works only manually, the "driver" has to force it to work. In this "box" can fit like 20 people squashed, or 10 people easy. IF the train meets another train on the rail, then its funny, because everybody has to go down and the men will take the train out of the rails, to let the other train to pass and then will put it back. If its too much wind(anyways its a lot of wind there, since on the left is the ocean and on the right its the river), then the train may go out of the rails 3-4 times, but the men can put it back, so dont worry. Its realy beautiful, but go in the morning, to be able to spend some time there, to see the place where the ocean meets the river, simply amazing and unique. regarding this, have you listened the song "Hay amores", by Shakira? She says in the lyrics : "Ay ! mi piel, como el río Magdalena que se funde en la arena del mar, quiero fundirme yo en tí. ". Again, since its Colombia, the price may vary between 1 000- 20 000 pesos for each traveles, try to negociate as much as you can with the guy. And enjoy the experience, at first you will hate it, but then you will love it!
