A very quiet beach. Over all, Very economical. So relaxing. Great for the family. Away from the noise. Very eco friendly. Any many other positive things...

Playas is a nice beach town. It has a few good restaurants that offer the fresh catch from the day. You can also have some of the traditional Ecuatorian food, GOOD!The beach is nice, but during Dec to Feb you might get rain!! But it is good and the water is warm. Not much more to say, nice place, not far from Guayaquil, might be worth staying for more than a day.

Playas is an old fishing village on the beautiful Pacific Ocean with endless beach. That is where the good part end.The town is dirty, there is no descent place to eat, no descent place to stay, the beach is dirty and littered with trash. Not worth the detour...

The climate in Playas is all that it is advertised to be. Perfect temperature, constant breeze, overall a very pleasant place.

After having travelled the entire length of the Ecuador coast, we fell in love with Playas. We settled here February to June, and quickly learned the ins and outs of the sleepy fishing village. It really comes alive on the weekends during this period because the inlanders flock to the beaches and the local schools are still on summer break. So, you get a good balance between reveling and recovery! As already mentioned, water is warm for swimming, and waves can be good for surfing. Playas is near the mouth of the Guayaquil river so the water is silty especially during the rainy season, and not your typical cerulean blue. Don't expect to go scuba diving! As for day-to-day living, there are several grocery stores and a upper scale one at The Mall. it also has banks, a pharmacy, a health clinic, fast food chains and sport shops. You can break up the humdrum by spending an afternoon there. If you want to be in the center of activity, stay in any of the local hostels. Otherwise, there are private rentals on the town outskirts.

very good location, just right by the ocean, however a bit far away from the city center. Marlene the owner was like our mum :-) I stayed here with my friend, and we had a great, relaxing time at Playa Tropical. The Wifi is very good, you can prepare your food in the kitchen, everything is nice and clean. If you are looking for chill out in the small beach town - , Marelene´s Cabanas Playa Tropical is the right place for you.

We rented an apartment in Playas for a couple weeks. The beach is nice - long and reasonably well maintained for a public beach. Water is warm in February. The vendors are abundant, but not obnoxious. If you say no or shake your head no they politely walk away. There are plenty of traditional Ecuadorian seafood places within a few blocks of the beach. We also found a couple of empanadas places a few blocks away - they are located across from the main park. The beach gets busy on Saturdays and busier on Sundays. If you can visit during the week you'll find it very sparsely populated (and fewer amenities open) if you go towards the left after reaching the beach.

If you are looking for a nice beach in Southern Ecuador I will highly recommend visiting Playas. If you visit Playas from November thru May you will find a great warm weather, however from June thru October the ocean could be less warm. There about 17 miles of beach with clean sand and beautiful ocean waves. The best area is near the “rompe olas / Humboldt dock/ pier” You will love the seafood in particular shrimp ceviche with plantains, coco ice creams or coco juice. Whether you are traveling with children or friends you will enjoy the ocean view, food and harmony. I would recommend to rent a car or to take a taxi from Guayaquil (Ask the taxi driver to drive slow). There is a great road and will take an hour to get there. I will also recommend rent a condo. “Carabelas de Colon” is a neat resort located at the best spot and sometimes they have apartments for rent.

We had been studying in [cold] Cuenca for a month, so coming to this beach was a nice getaway from the mountains. We weren't looking for anything special, just some sand to walk along and some rocks to sit on. There were many different people - fishermen, families, and artisans. It's a bus ride away from Guayaquil and a nice escape from the city. The food in Playas is also cheaper than the food in the city - always a plus.

Don't go. There are tons of rip tides. No warning signs. No life guards. My friend drowned in Via a Data and two of my other friends almost died with him. We spent two days looking for him and those were the most horrific two days of my life. It's not the first time someone has died there. Don't go, PLEASE.
