Pocitos is the high rent district in Montevideo. The beautiful people live hre and shop at the Puerto Carretas Mall. Go to the Puerto Carretas Parque at sunsiet for some great sunset photo ops.

Very good neighborhood, where you can find lots of bars/pubs and restaurants. Good to shopping and safe to walk around.

The Pocitos neighborhood offers a variety of restaurants and on its seashore, Pocitos Beach, you can walk or ride a bike.

I am an Aussie from Queensland so I am used to great beaches and certainly do not travel to see beaches. For all that I live just a couple of blocks from Pocitos Beach so it is very familiar to me. The beach itself is great - wide, long, fine sand which is clean except for a small corner at one end which catches black stuff from the currents. No surf of course. Although it looks like the sea we are actually still in Rio de Plata (River Plate) even though the other bank is probably about 150 km away and out of sight. The water though is not blue. It took me a long time to get used to looking out to sea and seeing brown water, or at the best a dirty green colour. You can swim in it though and it has very little salt content.La Rambla, the street along the waterfront, runs for 21km in Montevideo so there is a wide pavement area well used by locals for walking, running, cycling or just sitting around socialising. There are also beach sport facilities in the summer where people play beach volleyball and beach football (soccer). There are restaurants across the road at a few spots, most with outdoor tables as well. In summer there are also toilet facilities (mobile ones) but these are not usually there in winter.A great place to spend time if you want to sunbake on a beach or throw a ball around, also OK for swimming but no decent waves and the water is a bit silty.Of course if you want really wonderful beaches that go forever, with blue water and surf, go to Australia.

It is nice to stroll in the shady streets with many corner restaurants and bars.iIt is also recommended to visit the mall Punta Carretas which was once the prison during the dark period of Uruguay, and is now bustling with shops and restaurants.

The beach is nice and long and not too busy bearing in mind it's attached to the city. volleyball and football being played in one corner adds to the attraction. The water as it is the River Plate is a bit brown and as you walk out into the water thee is a weird sensation of a mud floor.None the less this is a nice beach, probably not to the standard of beaches further up the coast but it does have the benefits of being in Montevideo city and the busses come from all over the city p to it, so transport is simple.

Pretty little stretch of beach and area of town. I am not sure of the water quality for swimming, but there were lots of people enjoying the muddy, warm water.

The beach had almost nothing..... The sea was brown, no service at all and 99% os the restaurants were closed on sunday to lunch, really dissapointing... It's a nice bike ride but you'll have to take all of what you want
