I only had time to walk to the waterfall lookout point, which took me the sign posted fourty five minutes. It is a little rock in places, a bit uphill and the steps give you a bit of a work out. But the scenery all along and the waterfall at the end is well worth it. I took plenty of photos and enjoyed spending a bit of time at the end just looking at the waterfall. The top of the waterfall was still enclosed in fog, and I will definitely come back another time and walk right to the top. A fantastic place to go hiking in New Zealand bush, especially on a nice day. Bring some lunch and enjoy the view at the end, whether you are just going to the look out or right to the top.

I've done a number of nature walks in New Zealand. One of my favourites is the Hakarimata trail, and if you can handle that, I'm told, you can handle Wairere Falls. I have to say though, this is far more majestic and beautiful. We walked it today, the sun was out, and it was absolutely spectacular. It's a great walk - punch through it and get all the way to the top. Don't stop at half way. It's great exercise and you're rewarded at the top with a stunning view. If you're a tourist, in the area, then this is a must!

Be prepared for a 45 minute hike up 121 steep stairs and rocky mountainous terrain! This hike ain't for the faint at heart. Then you have to hike down another 45 minutes! Very sweaty! We only went to the lookout point because the summit was an additional 45 minutes up. Falls are impressive and are the tallest in New Zealand! The view from the road is nice too! Just be ready for the long steep hike and make sure you have enough time and water! Safe trekking!

We wanted to follow the trail to see this waterfall up close, but since we had already spent most of the day hiking at the Waiorongomai Valley in the rain, we just got a photo from the road. It was still impressive.

One of my most favourite spots ever! If you get the opportunity, go here! Beautiful native bush, gorgeous waterfall. Driving the Old Te Aroha Road is a real treat too. The Kaimais don't get any better than this.
