THis was a great place to have easy access to from our hotel and now has a special place in our memories given the family wedding that took place there. This was the main reason we visited Opunake but we are so glad we did.

This beach kicks up pretty good surf. The area is very pretty and there is a nice, coastal walking path. Obviously, with surf that can get pretty rough, it means that it can be windy too.

Visited the beach daily whilst staying at the adjacent campsite. Great surf, lots of picnic benches and great beach to walk on at sunset. There is not much shelter when the wind really picks up though. Some good walks along the headland at both ends of the beach. The path on the west end leads through a pretty cliff top garden full of flowers and succulents.

Great walks around the headland. Even with changeable spring weather, the views and surf are amazing.

We visited Opunake for an afternoon recently, the little town was very quiet and very quaint. There were some interesting bric-a-brac and second-hand shops in the main street and the cafes were open. We bought some hot food and coffee and drove down to the wonderful beach, the beach was very quiet with just a few surfers on the water and after lunch we did a good long coastal walk which was very enjoyable. On our walk we came across a lovely communal garden and some of the sea views were truly incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed our very quiet and relaxing afternoon spent at Opunake and hope to get back there someday soon, perhaps for a stay.

We've just returned from a week long family camping trip (tents) at the Opunake Beach Kiwi Holiday Park, Opunake Beach, Taranaki. What a fantastic bay and campsite!The camp facilities are top-notch and very clean. The campsite is small to medium sized with an excellent playground and splash paddling pool for the kids. Teenagers enjoyed the TV room and covered outdoor picnic tables for card games and catch ups. They even had a free kids programme!The beach is across the road and very safe with a patrolled surf lifeguard on duty. Great for boggie boarding and rock pool explorations.Also not far away is New Plymouth and of course beautiful Mt Taranaki. I cannot rate this camp/area highly enough as being the perfect family get-away. Loved it and we'll definitely be back!!
