The object of this facility is to help preserve and propagate the Maori culture and language, and I am all for that. But I would like to know what they think, how they feel, and how the family unit works, etc. Unfortunately, this tour showed the already seen images of native life- they do crafts! they sing! they dance! but do they tell us what they really think, or how they really live? I doubt it. Our guide was named Carol, and she was great! I would like to sit down with her and have a real conversation. Meanwhile, it is worthwhile , if you are a foreigner , to see this place. The carvings especially are magnificent .

I totally agree with Juliet02's 12 March review. My sentiments entirely. I had been apprehensive about the whole Maori experience and thought it might be tacky, it was very professional and we gained a great insight into Maori culture.Rotorua has relied on tourism for a century and seems to get most things right. If you are in a major tourist area you have to expect tourist attractions.
