We came on two successive days, taking advantage of the free entry on day 2. We also bought a combined ticket to Wingspan. The leaflets were all very informative and found the Te Arawa exhibit particularly good.The cafe looked good, overlooking the gardens, but we didn't try it.

Interesting visit for learning the history of NZ and Maori. The building once served as a night club and a mud spa, very nice view from the top.

There was an interesting children's exhibition and the exhibits regarding the museum's prior history as a bath house was interesting. However, the entrance fee is grossly over priced. I suggest you admire the architecture from the outside and then turnaround.

My husband and I visited Rotorua and the museum in early March. And it's a good place for spend half day and know more about the city.First, the Museum locates in the government garden which is a very nice place for taking pictures. And the Museum has several parts: the exhibition of Rotorua's history, exhibition of the history of the museum itself, a small cinema to show the video about Rotorua and a place for kids to explore and learn science. It can provide sufficient information for you to understand more about the city and New Zealand. One tip is that the voice over of the video will be either on Mandarin or English. Since there's no subtitles, better choose the one suit you the most.

Very interesting & a great hands on area for kids!! Loved the cinema & the volcano experience! Grandkids loved it all! Even the Maori "old stuff" they found interesting!

Loved this Museum had a great day here, did the tour with a lady who was very informative and of a pleasant disposition, lots to see and very well laid out, would recommend a visit.

Great way to spend a day. Former bathhouse, alternative medicine, A great movie with a feeling of volcano eruptions, An educational experience on Maori Culture, polite and informative guide, a nice cafe

If you need something to do then this will fill your time, but frankly its not overwhelming. Do visit the roof if you go, though.

Fascinating - a good mix of subjects covered, including the fascinating section on the museum's former role as a bathhouse, the movie that will make the earth move under your feet, and an excellent Maori section. Just the right size, very well presented, and friendly staff. What more could you ask for?
