Sadly we could only go a few km along the path as we did not have more time, but this is on the list for next time. Beautiful and what are certainly many perfect and empty beaches to enjoy along the way.

My husband and I took a Marahau water taxi from town up to Anchorage, and walked the 6 miles back to town. We kept a brisk pace, as we had a flight to catch to the North Island that evening and didn't have any time to dawdle. We were able to complete it in 3 hours, even with multiple stops for taking photos. Aside from the first quarter mile, where it starts off a bit steep at that particular point of the trail, the rest of the hike followed a flat, easy trail. Definitely bring water and snacks with you, as you won't pass any rest stops. We didn't use bug repellant and yet were never attacked by sandflies or fleas as I assumed we would; I guess the trail is far enough from the water. Marahau Water Taxis of the Abel Tasman Centre are great - we had a personable captain who started the trip by taking us off-route to see fur seals lounging on a tiny island off the coast before heading up to Anchorage, where we actually disembarked in the water. They get you in as close to the beach as possible, but you do have to take off your socks and shoes and wade through a few inches of water before reaching the sand. The water was pleasant enough, so we were happy to do it. The whole trail smells of lush, sweet greenery, and we saw a quail with chicks along the way. If I ever find myself in Abel Tasman again, I'd definitely hike this trail for a longer distance - the views along the way are just stunning.

To walk this park is the most amazing experience with the most beautiful beaches and what I would call untouched New Zealand. The weather is beautiful and even in the shoulder season the days are great. There are also many kayak company's to be able to kayak the beautiful waters of this park. There is a marine reserve and seals. Thoroughly recommend this area to anyone. You won't be disappointed.

A stunning track in all sections, the Abel Tasman is worth the summer busy-ness. There are many ways to enjoy it--walk the length, do day hikes with the help of water taxis, kayak the length or in bits, ... every possible combination. Whatever you do, don't skip this part of New Zealand. However, the northern end is more remote, pristine, and we would argue, a better experience. Stay in eastern Golden Bay (we recommend Golden Bay Hideaway's "Little Greenie") and drive or shuttle to Totaranui for the walk North around the headland. Or kayak with Golden Bay Kayaks from the north west side to Taupo Point or further. We did both. So glad we spent the seven days among the various locations.

Used Wilson to take a boat out to Tonga quarry beach and then hiked back in to Medlands beach. Up and down into the woods and then down to 1 gorgeous beach after another. The trail is very well maintained and the views are spectacular. We only did a 2 hour hike, could have seen more. A big plus, lots of well maintained bathrooms!
