We visited the museum which explains how and why the Basques came whale fishing in the region way before Jacques Cartier sailed Saint-Laurent river. We got a tour of the museum for free. I actually learned quite a bit: why they were whale fishing, why in that region, what they did with the different part of the whale...There is also a big wall outside the museum to play the pelote. Having been in the Basque region in Europe, it was interesting to see that it was played in Quebec and people in Trois-Pistoles are quite serious about pelote. You can reserve through the museum to play. When we were there, it was all reserved and a team was practicing for a tournament. It was nice since we got to see them play. There is also a rock climbing wall but we didn't do that.

Passing by we couldn't help but notice the tall red wall and hear the slam of a ball and shouts of encouragement. Yes, a game of pelote was in progress! Originating in the Basque area who knew that we would find it being played here in Quebec. There was no fee to enter so we just sat and watched for about 30 minutes. There are explanatory panels set up that explains the basics if the game - a realky interesting cultural stop. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, I dont know how often a game is played.

A cet endroit se trouve un centre d'interprétation dédié aux chasseurs de baleines du 16e siècle. Plusieurs artéfacts de l'île aux Basques y sont exposés. Nous n'avons pas visité le musée. Cependant, nous avons pris part à l'excursion de 3 heures pour l'île aux Basques($).***On peut aussi jouer à la Pelote Basque. C'est le seul endroit au Canada qui possède un fronton de pelote.Un café-bistro et une belle petite terrasse où vous pourrez assister à une partie de Pelote Basque entre amis.Notre gîte étant situé à moins de 10 minutes à pied du Parc de l'Aventure, nous avons eu la chance à quelques reprises de voir des parties de Pelote Basque. Vous pouvez vous asseoir dans les gradins pour les voir jouer.Le sentier national, le quai de Trois-Pistoles, le traversier Trois-Pistoles/Les Escoumins et le bateau Léon Provancher pour l'excursion de l'île aux Basques se trouvent tous à quelques pas du Parc Basque.Tarif: visite Centre d'interprétation: 7.50$ : adulteDe la mi-juin à la mi-septembre, tous les jours, de 10h à 18h*** Excursion de l'île aux Basques: visite guidée: voir leur site internet: Société Provancher($)
