Very educational for all ages. It shows the very tough lives of fishermen and their families especially the Japanese Canadian fishermen.

A unique site to walk around and see original buildings and learn of the history of the area of Steveston. Well worth the visit.

Ive lived in the Steveston area for 20+ years and 2013 was the first time I visited the Britannia Shipyards! I dont know why it has taken me so long to make the 5 min trip out here! But I am glad that I finally did. Its a great walk from the Steveston Village with paved pathways and awesome views. You are able to go into the different staged buildings but be aware of their opening times. During the summer, there are a number of maritime festivals that showcase this area that would be the best time to come.

Authentic looking buildings and artefacts along with a talk, gave a good understanding of the hardships and successes of an industry that drove this part of the world.

This area contains the cannery and several of the cottages and a longhouse where the workers lived when Richmond's fishing and caning industry was in its infancy. We could walk through the huge wooden facility where the boats were built - many exhibits were on display here. We also entered several cottages furnished as they were back in the early 20th century, as well as a longhouse where a Japanese fisherman's family lived. This still held the family's original furnishings. Richmond is fortunate to have saved so much of its history here, and it was a pleasure to visit and learn while having a wonderful time.

Take a stroll along the new cement walkway that runs east(?) of the village. Look out toward the breakwater and down at the dock where there are always people fishing off the dock. They've done a great job of recreating the village where fishermen, cannery workers, Chinese and Japanese immigrants lived with houses recreated as they might have been during that time. There's a two story bunkhouse, a manager's house, recorded voices and artifacts such as postcards, furniture, letters, photographs, books and government documents. There's a small garden and the whole entering the little wooden structures above the river does take you back in time. There's about five buildings to explore and it's even better if they are working on restoring an old boat. The big building where they restore, work on boats is often closed, or at least it has been when I've gone.A trip here, as part of a bigger day trip to Steveston is always a quick getaway from the city to a quaint little village that's always bustling.

We hadn't planned to go to Steveston on Saturday but a friend mentioned the new-to-us Britannia shipyards re-creation. We spent a couple of hours there, and are so glad we did. It's at the far eastern end of Steveston, and set along the riverfront, so it's lovely and quiet. The buildings - former bunkhouses for the cannery and shipyard area work men, manager's house, and other buildings of the time -- have been well set up, and there are some really poignant moments, listening to recordings of people who lived then, or reading some of what they'd written to their family about their lives and the work. It's a great way to gather a bit of a picture of that part of that area's history.

Great museum set up with a guided tour to explain how it was back then. The scenery around is very appealing also to a small fishing village. If you enjoy taking pictures this is also a great place to,get some unique pictures of the Steveston Village and area. Check it out even if you are a local and learn something new.

It's not a very exciting place (pretty small) but it's very cute. There's some history here. And the landscape is beautiful.
