if you have an history in early 19th century Canadian history then this museum is for you, lots to see, remember there is also an addition at the back of the museum, which is in fact one of the older homes in New Westminster, the added partition is full of early Canadian tools and house hold items, the museum offers of lots children activities to educate them on the early life of BC and New Westminster

If visiting New Westminster, please also visit the Anvil Centre, our newest civic building and most certainly a triumph in the building. Anvil offers full conference centre and tourism information as well as the fantastic and most impressive Museum. Moved into Anvil the Museum offer 9000 square feet of displays of the early history not only in New Westminster but of the Province in its early years. Staff are extremely helpful and informative and the Museum makes every effort to accommodate groups and individuals. I am so proud of this new Museum and of Anvil Centre with all of its beauty and reference to New West and it's history. Please come and visit.

This town is farther down the list than Surrey BC which stands as the 10th most crime ridden city in CA -but that doesn't make it easier to swallow. "Uptown" around 6th and 6th where there once was 1 of 2 remaining Woodwards Stores was a pleasant, and safe place to frequent. Now the parking is exorbitant and there are many inferior to completely unmarked spots for handicapped vehicles. Note that it's a crap shot to park with a meter and the city employees will ticket you $50 to $80 if you do not see the 2 inch decals on various poles (there are no proper signs). Shame on you New West. !!You park at your own risk as there are parking staff about but no law enforcement- none.And even when you can locate a city employee they are far from civil. The skytrain stations are very nerve racking and there are dealers around, on and in the platform/station areas. This is neither a place for seniors or families. The garden near city hall marked for visitors is filled with employees even thou there is designated parking for the staff. If you have occasion to encounter New West staff do not expect them to be courteous or professional. As ambassadors of the city. I am note sure if this is the status quo or a training issue but the councilors and mayor may be able to look long and hard at just how this town can attract and keep tourist (or even potential real estate investors). The lower district of New West which encompasses Columbia St. and the Quay is a strange blend of homeless folk and an attempt at high end which clearly struggles. There are a number of businesses that have failed. And finally Queens Park manages to prevail but a park does not a return visit to this sad little town make.

After a tour around Irving House I popped into the museum. There were display boards explaining about the history of New West and the goldrush but then it ended as renovations appeared to be underway and the second part had yet be be finished so in that respect a little disappointing.

Wonderful historical information about New Westminster B.C. It's easy to get to, lots of parking, attentive staff.

It is a nice place to find out history about New West ,they done a great job ! little small ,but over all ,it is good place to spare 1 hour!
