Depending on which spot you get you'll find this to be a very peaceful campground. My review is based on the 6 times per year that we have been here over the last 4 years. We keep on going back. Tip: reserve your site a week or two before camping, it will give you the best choice of spots. The negative is they charge for extra vehicles that stay overnight in your site. Quite a money grab. Burning wood is expensive so come prepared to spend if you want fire. Positive: everything else! See you this weekend

Privacy at each campsite with lots of trees between sites. Nice big play area and covered picnic tables in centre of park. Take path down to lake there are a few to choose from.

Charlie Lake provincial park (behind the Hwy Weigh Scales at the junction of Hwy's 97 & 29) is an average example of the generally excellent provincial campsites. Very private tree'd sites without RV hookups, but access to water, garbage facilities, outhouses, and Sani-Station on the way in/out (no showers). This park is relatively large, and has excellent hiking trails down to the lake, very large lake frontage(mostly un-developed) and an easy to use boat launch with parking for vehicles and boat trailers. It's entrance is also at the intersection of the road down to the best golf course in the area; Lakepoint. It is however, near the highway so locals know that the more peaceful provincial park is accross the lake: Beatton Prov Park & Campsite - not a long drive but worth the more serene location.

We used the park as day use. The view was stunning and it was so relaxing and quiet. Most people were paddling and there were a few quiet motor boats. I would highly recommend going.

Large provincial campsite. Good fishing at certain times of the year.

The trails were very well groomed. It had been windy though, so there was a fair bit of debris on the trails. we would definitely visit the park again.

I camped at Charlie Lake Provincial Park in July 2011 while en route from Alaska to Tennessee. Everything about the park is perfect for a traveler on the cheap. You get an elevated gravel pad with a table, access to outhouses and potable water, and it's a 10-minute walk to the lake, which is everything you ask for in a sub-arctic lake. The town of Fort St. John is about 15 minutes south on the highway, and they have all the modern conveniences. The visitor's center has free wifi, there is a selection of restaurants, a Safeway grocery store with a gas station, and there is a public swimming pool that offers showers for $2 if you're into showering. If you're planning a trip through the Great White North amd you're carrying your own hotel in the trunk of your car, this park is the perfect place to pitch it.
