After finishing in Halifax our next destination was Peggy's Cove via this Park. What a find. We had the place to ourselves and spent ages reading the old grave stones. Lovely boardwalk along the beach area with seats for enjoying the tranquil sea - not like when the disaster happened when 277 people lost their lives in the worst sinking of a ship before the Titanic sank. Many were women and children. The museum has many relics from the sinking and is very informative. There is a small tea room and although no charges are made a donation is welcomed.

This was one of the informative centre's we stopped at. It told a very poignant story about one of the worst little known marine disasters where every woman and child perished. This resulted in the women & children first rule. Quaint little tea room. Excellent, friendly staff. Nice trail. Well worth the visit.

The SS Atlantic Heritage Park and Interpretation Center were stops on a guided tour of the region. We had not initially planned a visit to the site, but decided to go upon our guide's suggestion. The museum is small but filled with interesting artifacts from the wreck. We were not able to see the Titanic artifacts in Halifax due to time constraints, so this was a surprisingly good substitute. The walk to the memorial is pleasant, with small Pioneer cemeteries scattered throughout. The actual memorial overlooks a beautiful inlet and there is a gazebo further down the path for enjoying the view.

We stumbled upon the park while exploring the coast and are very glad that we stopped. We were greeted at the door by a volunteer who explained the the story of the SS Atlantic and the Heritage Park. The museum staff are volunteers and quite enthusiastic about their town and its' history. As other reviewers have explained, the site is quite beautiful, but it is the stories, the history, and the locals themselves that make it well worth the stop. Not to be missed are the cinnamon buns made at home by one of the volunteers. I would drive way out of my way for more of them!!!!

We found this heritage park through a local who we were staying with. She is an ex-guide for the region and said we had to see this. We were so impressed and so pleased we had inside knowledge as it is a must see park.Not only is the history something all Canadians should know, but the way it is displayed and presented is incredible.There is a short walk to the mass grave on the foreshore but easy walking for all ages. The view is amazing. The memorial is well developed and maintained with memorial plaques everywhere, tastefully done. The boardwalk and gazebo is a pleasant addition to the memorial park and one could sit for ages looking at the fantastic shoreline and view.Once back at the museum, knowleable guides talk you through the history which far exceeds that of the Titanic disaster, which has a high profile in Halifax. More people lost their lives and are buried here than the Titanic.It is a shame it is not better publisized and available to the general travelling public. This is a must see for all Nova Scotians and they must take their visitors there.The people who maintain this memorial are to be congratulated for the presentation of this Memorial Park

We first stumbled upon the Heritage Park April 2011, with 2 other couples, in the pouring rain. Had never heard of the SS Atlantic, although it was the worst sea disaster prior to the Titanic! The park with it's memorial, information signs, and boardwalk is a don't miss! We spent an hour in the Pioneer Cemetery reading the stones and admiring the interesting "tombstones." We returned again in May when it was sunnier - even more delightful. Then rounded out our tour with a visit to the Museum in July to learn more about the wreck (you can get a cup of coffee and some cookies there also - not to mention some nice Nova Scotian crafts). An exhibit about Terence Bay being the birth place of the Nova Scotian Tartan was very informative. A trip further down the main road brought us to a miniature reproduction of the town in a local's front yard - a fun place to take pictures. Also the Catholic cemetery where the rest of the victims of the shipwreck are buried. We were very glad we took the time to follow the signs and explore. The site is free, donations accepted at the museum.
