One of Ontario's best. Sandy beach, walking trails, good water, everything you want for camping and town is only 5 km away.

We tried Bass Lake this year after camping several years at Mara. We had a wonderful time and the kids declared it the best camping trip yet. The location is fairly close to Orillia. There are several sites with electricity (although we prefer the non-electric). Bathrooms were clean and the park was not busy. There is a nice new playground for the kids and the beach was raked every day. You can rent canoes, kayaks and paddle-boats at a reasonable price on-site - they included a boat kit and life-jackets. The park sells firewood and kindling. The kindling is nice and dry and burns well. If you are looking to have a couple of hours of marshmellows with the kids, I would suggest two bags of kindling vs any firewood. The firewood was very wet (as expected, it's stored outside and it's been a rainy summer), even after 5-6 hours of campfires, we only got through 2.5 of the 6 firewood logs. Overall, great spot for a 2-4 day camping trip.

My wife and I just went camping at Bass Lake and we enjoyed it very much. It is within 3 km of Orillia but you feel secluded as it is surrounded by a forest. It is not overly crowded, there were no drunken partiers, and the park rangers did a good job of patrolling the park in their trucks. There was a pleasant trail where you go past a site that was once a working farm. Only negative is we found the mosquitoes were heavier than expected. We will definitely be back again.

We were in Orillia for the Girls Field Lacrosse provincials, it was 6 minutes from the fields. What a great spot for camping. Even though we had a summer thunderstorm, there are enough tree canopy to set up the tarp shields, we stayed dry and still enjoyed our camp fires. The name "Bass Lake" is a misnomer, there are no fish, except for tiny little ones. You can get nice sized fish at the Zehr's grocery store- a five minute drive..lol and also pick up a timmie's coffee while you're there as well. Be aware, the park is patrolled by game wardens, if you are over 17 and fishing, whether you catch a minnow or not, you have to have a valid fishing licence when fishing. I was fishing on the dock with my 11 year old daughter and was asked to show my licence. I had bought one the day before we left for camping. Showers were hot with a lot of pressure. Safe water and power sites as well.

Whether you come to camp or come on a day pass, Bass Lake Provincial Park is awesome. Bass Lake is one of the warmer lakes near Orillia, so it's a great place for extended swimming - especially for little ones. It's a short drive from many of Toronto's suburbs (just over an hour). You can rent a canoe or kayak here to for a very reasonable rate of $7/hr for a single or $12/hr for a double. On our outing, we saw ducks and geese. There's a playground near the beach which is meticulously maintained and a small store for park souvenirs. Despite the campground being nearly full, we found ourselves alone at the beach for our evening swim. On previous trips here, the beach area can get quite full during the day and on the weekend during the summer though. A great visit this year with friendly staff and a kind warden.

Great memories to be had! It is very pretty and love that it has lake access for swimming etc. It is family oriented but has many private campsites for those who want to experience the whole outdoor woodsy experience too.

We spent the day on fathers day at bass lake, we camp there as well. We brought our bbq, the new park for the kids is amazing. We went fishing and the kids caught small fish. It was clean and the bathroom was clean as well. We saw lots of nature, frogs, deer, birds, dragon flys. The kids said it was better than the zoo. There was some rude people that decided to party on the deck while we were fishing which was the only downside to our day. We did not swim at the beach as it was a little cold but it was marked off for swimmers and there were some people in the water. We had a great time and will be back for camping. The only reason I gave it for stars as I thought $15.00 for day and I think $40.00 or more for one night is alittle high.

Bass Lake is home for us, so we know this Provincial Park well. Most visitors camp, and there are not too many of those - so the amenities are available for a little private time in the woods or on the beautiful Bass Lake.An hour north of Toronto and five minutes from the shops and restaurant of Sunny Orillia, it's worth visiting even when closed for the winter, when the easy cross-country trails are extensive and the scenery breath-taking.There is a beach, playground, dock, rental boats, fishing, showers, etc. etc.Worth visiting in autumn too for fall colours and fresh air.

I have rated my experience as excellent because I got exactly what I expected out of a trip to Bass Lake. What I accomplished was a nice, quiet hike through the park on a hot summer afternoon. While the area around the beach parking lot was busy, a quiet stroll further along the lake was possible. The Waterside Trail does wind its way through a marshy area, as well as uphill through a former homestead. Very pleasant indeed, if all you want to do is hike. The beach is suitable for young children, just don't go there expecting a Sandbanks or even Mara. Another highlight is that part of the Waterside Trail is handicapped accessible.
