Somehow the often stodgy old Jack Miner (Wild Goose Jack) museum had lost its appeal. Then, a new and creative curator was given responsibility for the museum and the former Miner home and an entirely new and more delightful educational experience has come into fruition. They even hosted a Windsor-Essex ElderCollege course here a year ago. This is now a very credible destination for visitors travelling from away or from Windsor and Detroit. Jack miner was an unusual man--devoted to his cause--saving wild geese--and devoted to his faith. All of this is evidence in the Museum. Well worth a visit and well worth learning why the Town of Kingsville has its annual Wild Goose Festival..

I am not sure what I missed here. A gaggle of geese in a corn field and some birds in cages. I was here 20 years ago, took the tour. I was left completely underwhelmed.

I wouldn't say Jack Miner's was poor but the bird watching certainly was. We visited on October October 24, 2014 at around noon. The only birds were some peacocks in cages and a few geese floating on a tiny enclosed pond. We spent about ten minutes and saw everything. Very possibly this was the wrong time of day and if flocks of migrating birds spent the night in the fields they had all left by this time. Fortunately we noticed signs for a wine tour of the area and spent the entire afternoon visiting terrific wineries along the Lake Erie shore. I will most certainly return for the wineries but am afraid Jack Miners isn't the same as my memories from childhood.

it is open on sundays as i just went yesterday (a sunday) the gate is always unlocked unless the pond is frozen and becomes a liability. its a great place to bring the kids to show them what its like in nature and how to feed and take care of the animals in the wild (and yes a lot of those geese are wild because they still migrate, while others who have wing deformities must stay during the winter. there are a couple geese that will even let you pet them. a lot of them will walk right up to you and not hiss and just want food. dont listen to all of the negative comments because they must be from the city and cant appreciate nature and what it has to give us. it may look closed on sundays because the washrooms and history building is closed but you can still go into the gated area and feet the geese food from the chest in front of the gate opening. jack miner has lots of trails to walk down, it even has a little shack house in the back that you can visit and see what it was like living in the olden days. its a great place overall.

This is a fair "attraction"….fairly interesting, fairly boring too. This "tourist attraction" is not opened on Sundays, the time of the week when most people like to take day trips….

wealth of info about the man and area birds, migrations through this area, We learned about the efforts made by him and eponymous foundation to ensure protection of habitat for our winged friends.

My title doesn't make fun of this historic place but it really is focused on birds and lots of them. This is simply not your average bird sanctuary. Jack Miner the founder was a Canadian legion second to none as were his children who followed in their father's footsteps. In it's hayday, thousands of Canada Geese would stop here in the fall and spring during the annual migration seasons. The flocks are somewhat smaller today due in part to the change in the weather. But there are still hundreds of geese that stick around all year. Don't try to visit on a Sunday because the place is closed so you can go to church (as the sign reads)

Jack Miner's is an amazing sanctuary built in early 1930's to help build the population of Canada Geese. It is the development of the research and monitoring of migrating birds as well. A small museum and observation building are not to be missed but you must have an interest in the desires of the Miner Family.
