This old railway bridge was going to be torn down, but fortunately the public-spirited people of Goderich and other places in Huron County had a better idea and raised the money necessary to convert it into a walkway across the Maitland River, leading to the walking trails on the other side, which the visitor should explore before returning. The view from the bridge is delightful, especially when the leaves are turning, the last golfers of the season are playing a round, and a few fishermen are trying their luck in the river. Bring your camera!

This is a site great for the locals. They may find their family name written on one of the boards of the bridge. The names denote who contributed to the saving of this bridge. if you decide to follow this trail to "Dunlop's Tomb" I suggest you are prepared for the long walk back as well. Take some water and wear good walking shoes. Although well worth the trip it is a long haul. Better to drive around to the other side and take the shorter walk.

We just drive over this bridge on the way to relative's houses, but it is just gorgeous in the fall, and we see fishermen wading through the river at times as well.

Be sure to pick up a trail guide booklet for the area. There are quite a few trails of all skill levels in and around Goderich. We walked along the beach trail in Goderich and really enjoyed this pretty bridge and the wonderful views on each side.We cut our walk a bit short when it began to rain but the trail continues for some ways after the bridge. Very nice area! If you are just planning to walk to and over the bridge, you will only need a half and hour or so.

'The Menesetung Bridge is part of the Dunlop Trail and is accessible from North Harbour Road and just off of Highway 21, one kilometre north of Goderich. This portion of the trail is steeped with history as it leads you by the 1907 CPR Station house and then over the Maitland River on a converted CPR bridge. The bridge was converted for pedestrian use in 1992 and renamed Menesetung, the word the Chippewa used to refer to the waters of the Maitland River.' We walked through the Port Park for about an hour and were delighted with the trails and flora. Looking forward to a return trip.

The bridge is worth walking over, clearly a labour of love for those who had it transformed into a pedestrian bridge. I didn't wander too far on the trail, but I will say that it's quite overgrown so the views are somewhat lacking

A peaceful stroll with a wonderful view of a very special place with historical importance to the area. A tribute to those with the foresight to preserve this structure

Nothing spectacular, but a very nice walk on an abandoned railway line. View is probably a bit better in the autumn, and is no doubt spectacular when the leaves change colour. Watch out for poison ivy if you leave the path -- and watch out even closer if you continue on the next trail (after the overpass over the highway).
