You can go snorkeling on your own at Mosquito Pier without a guide, a group! Just your own snorkel and fins!We took a scooter, but we saw others use the Publicos or cabs so it's easy to get to. There are stairs and a small platform for easy entry! Or if you're brave, jump in from the pier itself. We saw some fish along the wall to the pier, but there are definitely more near the pier itself. There was a porta potty but other facilities; bring water, food, etc. Lots of warnings about petty theft while people are snorkeling so I wore a waist belt with my credit card and $ in a Ziploc bag. That worked and actually the rest of our stuff was only molested by bugs.Nice snorkeling!

We're not big scuba or snorkel people but I imagine this must be nirvana for aficionados of those sports. The lee side (away from Isabella II) is a very sheltered area where we understand the snorkeling is very good. One of my colleagues from work snorkeled there on his honeymoon and said it was fantastic, so there you are. I was more interested in it for the infrastructure and history aspects. I know the legacy of the Navy and Marines on Vieques is one that is fraught with controversy and lingering ill-will, but that aside, the pier is a magnificent piece of engineering and construction that I'm sure is enjoyed by tourist and local alike. We later read that in the early 40s the Navy planned to construct a land bridge in this area that would connect Vieques with the main island. Wow! Well, after all, the motto of the Sea-Bees is "Can Do." It reminded me in a small way of the structures at the Panama Canal.

Great place to learn to snorkel from the beach along the leeward wall. when you advance drive out the pier and find the leeward steps before reaching the terminal. from there swim out under the pier to see eagle ray, turtle, schools spades and many other fish. its best to go on weekdays as there are fewer fishing lines to navigate. On the weekends go see the fishermen at work, we watched a 10 foot nurse shark brought along the pier to be released.

We weren't exactly sure how to do this, but after talking to a few people, we tried it out. Drive out to the end of the road, where the pier is. We jumped off of the first "landing" spot on the south side of the pier. Keep all of your stuff in the car - towels, shoes, etc. In order to get out, you'll need to swim south along the rocks until you get to the first tree - there's a spot where you can climb out there. WATCH OUT for sea urchins - they like to attach to rocks, so be careful when you're climbing out. When you jump in off of the pier, it's like swimming in an aquarium - absolutely beautiful. I've never seen so many fish in one place! There are lots of sea turtles there too - I didn't stay there very long because there was an incident with my phone :-( but in the short time I was out there, I did see a sea turtle! The swim along the rocks is beautiful too - shallow, and you'll see coral, sea fans, etc. An absolute must if you like snorkeling! Black Beard's also offers diving here - we saw them out diving while we were there.

This was a good place to snorkel. From the beach just before driving out on the pier, you can swim over star fish of all sizes. Further out, there is a set if steps which makes it easy to enter the water. Take a swim along the rocks to see a variety of fish.

This was a great stop for snorkeling. We saw lots of starfish near the shore. We went done to the end of the pier and brought some bread to feed the fish, all kinds of tropical fish hanging around the pier even saw some mushroom jellyfish there.

Sea stars, fishes, fans, corals are all along the calm, shallow waters beside the left side of the pier. An easy snorkel, even for beginners and younger snorkelers. It is best in the afternoon when the sun shines directly toward the pier. We did spot a lionfish, so just a reminder not to touch one and to watch where you step as there are also long quilled sea urchins. Take an underwater camera!

breeze keeps you cool, flat in and out. beautiful place to get some exercise if you can't run on the beach and the regular roads are not safe enough in my opinion.

be sure to snorkel the entire length of the pier cause there are interesting things to see all along. closest to the beginning where there is a small sand beach on the west side of the pier we saw two lion fish.

This is a good dive if you want to see loads of fish and turtles. This is not a dive for those looking to see coral.
