It's a nice and small beach in Manati, S, Juan de Puerto Rico. We decided to go with my boyfrend to spent the day, but we left after 2 hours. The beach was crowded (it was sunday), but that wasn't the problem. The thing was that there were 2 or 3 gorups with very loud music. It was impossible to stay peacefully staring at the view!! Not enjoyable at all!!

This looks like a perfect place for snorkeling, and I hope to return before our time on the island is up. Lots of locals were there when we went on the weekend.

Not very crowded. Very unique topography, with a rock-enclosed mini-bay, a more-traditional oceanside area, and a calm little lagoon. Lots of friendly, roaming dogs to keep you company. ;)

unfortunately there is too much litter for such a gem. People pick up your trash! Not really for swimming as much as viewing. Walk to the east of here for larger very pretty beach.

I have been two times to Playa Mar Chiquita and will definitely go again when back in Puerto Rico. It is mostly a locals beach and on weekends is filled to capacity with local families ranging from grandparents to children. This trip we went on a weekday and only a couple dozen people there. Not a swimming beach in my opinion but definitely worth the trip and the difficulty in finding it. It is like being at a fireworks show because one is constantly oooohing and aaaaawing at the wave show as the waves go over the top of the multi-storied-high granite rocks and then create waterfalls all down the rocks. Take a towel to sit on the sand and enjoy. Negative...no bathroom facilities except a bush.

This is one of my favorite places in Puerto Rico. Its about 45 minutes drive from San Juan and a bit hard to find, but worth the effort. In winter it is rarely used, so a great place to go to get away from the crowds. In summer it is very busy since summer is beach time for people who live on the island. The surf can be rough, so beware unless you are a strong swimmer. The views are wonderful from the top of the cliffs. Wear shoes while walking on the cliffs, because the sharp rocks are murder on the feet.

Although there are no facilities right on the beach, it is one beautiful little piece of the planet. I’m told it can get crowded in summer weekends, but during our Christmas stay it wasn’t. Dramatic rock outcrops just about encircle the beach save an opening where waves crash through. I would not get too far out in the water when it’s rough. You can climb the rocks and see the waves crashing on the other side. Use caution as there are no lifeguards and you are left to your own devices.Strongly suggest you GPS/Google etc. as the access is not very obvious once you leave the main road.Have fun

We're told by our hotel people to visit this beach. It was about 45 minutes drive from San Juan. The beach was wonderful and calm.

We visited Mar Chiquita on Christmas Day. The small parking area had several stray dogs either wandering around or lying down, so that part was definitely not appealing to us. We saw people going through a path to the right, and that led to a great view of the ocean. We went back to the main shoreline, which is really part of an enclosed area where the ocean waters just slip through a small section between two cliffs, creating sort of a lagoon picture, albeit with strong waves. We did not stay long, though we did notice people enjoying having the beach to themselves on a nice sunny day.

This was one of our most memorable day trips. The water is definitely rough so I would advise against swimming too deeply if you are not a confident swimmer. Even so the formation is unlike anything I have ever seen. For those who are more adventurous climb up on the rocks so you can see the other side of the this beach. They did have a port-o-potty here, but it was obviously not too clean. When facing the beach from the parking lot turn right towards the trees and the brick wall. There are 2 openings in the wall that will lead you to another private beach. Not for swimming or anything, just to see another side of it - we only stood for about 5 minutes
