If you visit Culebra, rent a golf cart. Sure, you could go all-American and rent a big honking Jeep, but why? The roads are narrow and winding. Moreover they are full of potholes, free range chickens, dogs, and iguanas. How fast could you go? A golf cart is the preferred way to get around and they are ultra fuel efficient too. I used one constantly to visit every beach in a five-day period and it cost me $6.00 of gas. Besides they are a lot of jun.where should you rent from? Well, in my experience the best place is Jerry's. They are right across the street from the tiny and only airstrip on the island. Their prices are fair and they treat you right.

So 1st off let me just say that the last time we were in PR we did not go due to the ferry reviews but this time we went to the ferry but still didn't take it the people are so rude. Any how so when we got to Culebra by plane we rented a jeep and went to Flamenco Beach so not what we heard about. The food stands were full of roosters and cats everywhere and the stench was horrible. The beach its self yes was in face beautiful but walking past all of the nasty stand not to mention the bathrooms oh my word it was like out of a horror movie. I would tell everyone to save your money go to crash car beach or dirty beach. Very disappointed spent a bunch of money to get there and just was not worth the trip the time

This is an incredible island to go to if you love nature, and can be independent and don't need a lot of pizazz to entertain you. The snorkeling is world class, the beaches are incredible. Even the hiking is great! I would recommend this to anyone who is adventurous, or even families with middle aged children (6+) to introduce them to marine life and spark their curiosity about the world and the creatures that live in it. Also, a quiet place to get away to a lovely beach and just read a book.

We were up and on the road from Isla Verde by 6 AM and got to Fajardo ferry terminal by 7:15 AM. on a weekday. Our GPS took us right there! We found street parking, but there is also a lot to park all day right by the ferry, for a fee. We waited in the line to buy tickets for about 15 minutes. We bought the round trip tickets ($2 per person as senior fare). While waiting for the 9:00 AM departure, food and coffee was available to buy. The ferry ride was calm the day we went, but I did take motion sickness medicine just to be safe. People were bringing coolers etc. I read somewhere there was an additional charge for that. We sat in the lower level out of the sun. We arrived in Culebra around 10:30. When you get off the ferry, lots of drivers are there holding signs of where they will take you. We got a van with about 6 other people to Flamenco Beach. $3 per person. We enjoyed the beach. It is big enough that you do not feel crowded at all. If you go to the left and all the way down, you will see the painted tank where I have read is a good snorkeling spot. I did not find anything there. I snorkeled back to the spot where I entered the beach and saw a few fish. I might not have been out far enough to see anything to rave about. There are kiosks where you can buy food and drinks as you enter the beach area. We got a taxi back to town around 1 PM. It was the same price. We were expecting to have to wait until the driver had a full van, but that was not the case. We walked around the town, saw the bridge they were working on, had lunch, went inside some shops, got some refreshing sorbet from the guy with the cart, and enjoyed the beauty. Can't beat the price for a day trip!

disapointing on many levels. my girlfriend and I were on vieques for the first week. glad to be off that island, never to return again !!! ( they just removed the outhouse ) was greatly looking forward to culebra. when we arrived at the rental car place, before noon, two of the people in the overcrowded office were drinking beer. yup, they drove off. (seperatly). that about sets the bar for the island. for the record, I'm always the dd. we had a waterfront house. not great. there was no glass where windows should have been so the noise from traffic was less than tranquil, and there was clear evidence of a prior break in. and coming from vieques where we were met with an armed escort...and told by the rental car company that we are under no circumstances to lock the doors... food was terrible with a few exceptions. the tacos were disapointing. ( i'm from so cal ) they weren't aweful, just, not great. it's just the only place. sailing was the high point. flamenco beach was...ok. we travel a lot. this was my idea. rated at #3 in the world...really? that was cheritable or the only beach the voters had EVER been to. upon arrival, we set our towels down and I went for photos. when I got back, a large group ( locals) had set up so close to my gf, i could not get my flip flop between my towel and one of theirs. ( it's a size 15) they left after the one who invented the hairy eyeball gave it to them. i never saw one seagull. the entire time on either island. I have been through tijuana over a hundred times and it's my opinion that tj is better. the service is far superior. i get the safety thing. I am also a surfer. I have lived in a van. so, it is with uttmost humility that I submit this unfavorable review. I speak the language. i didn't find one person who did not resent that. I also speak french...they oddly have more respect for my efforts. it seems to me that the people of these islands resent the non natives. ( kindly note the ferry reviews) there is no effort to speak english or in most cases print what needs to be said in english, like the warning signs...all spanish. it's clear that the general consensus is this place is for natives. fortunatly for 85% of them, we don't have that view of welfare checks. i get the whole positive attitude thing...i prefer the truth when it comes to my loved ones saftey, our vacation time and when spending my hard earned disposable income. and for the record, it's not like St John or St Thomas thirty years ago. it's a ghetto.

We rented a house that had magnificent views, a lap pool and a breeze that kept the bugs away. It was perfect for the 7 of us. The jeeps were necessary to get up the hill, and we visited several different beaches that were quite picturesque and safe for swimming and snorkeling. Four of our group did a few dives, which were ok but not spectacular. Driving in the town is crowded, due to parking and narrow streets, and restaurants are ok, but not special. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. But if you want a quiet, beautiful island, Culebra is it.

It's a very nice island. Flamenco Beach is the most beautiful beach that I've been in my life. We wanted to rent a golf car to get to the beach but they were not available. So we were taking a shuttle. To get to the island was a bit headache as you have to stay in the line for about half an hour in order to buy ferry tickets. And it's so inconvenient as you cannot buy those tickets online. Plan ahead if you want to enjoy your trip and don't forget to take cash with you.

Traveling to Culebra is harder than you think, waking up to catch the ferry at 5am is ruff, but must be done to get there with a seat. The lines are long and the ferry is packed so take your sea meds! The Ferry Ride is about and hour, the bus ride to the beach is hot and packed, but once you are there its amazing! I have never seen such gorgeous water and sand. There is plenty of space for everyone and to even be a bit secluded if you would like.We brought our own snorkeling equipment and it was great, you have to go out past the break reef to see the wildlife- which is about 100-200 yards. There is food and beverages for purchase in the interior section of the beach which is nice, because you will get hungry. you are out there all day. Bring a cooler if you can because it is VERY HOT and water and ice is a must.the line to board the ferry at the end of the day is long, a lot of hurry up and wait, and there are some who have had too much to drink during the day which makes for fun people watching- but it is a long way to get back to the main island- keep that in mind if you have small children.All in all glad I did it for the snorkeling and the scenery. But I would probably take a private charter next time :)

The beaches are beautiful the atmosphere is great and we snorkel led and saw beautiful reefs and fish!
