My wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Bahamas at Atlantis. We wanted to do some excursions on the trip, and decided to try out Clifton Heritage National Park. Definitely a great decision! After being picked up from the hotel, a local named Joseph drove us to the West side of the island, giving us a car tour of the island on our way out. He did a really great job! The plantation ruins at the park itself were really neat, the guided tour was fine, but the real highlight was that after the tour they drop you off at a beach where you are literally the only people there! Great snorkeling too. Factor in the free lunch they provide and it's definitely a steal. Highly recommended!!!

It was a $7 bus ride on the #12B bus and bus driver asked what time we wanted to be picked up as no buses go there regularly. It cost $2 for park entry so that is a bargain. $20 to rent snorkel gear for 4 hours. The snorkelling is great here and I highly recommend it. My wife and I are avid photographers and we were very disappointed with the coastal wetlands. We did see blue herons, snowy egrets, great egrets but alond with these beautifil birds in the wetlands was lots of garbage, empty beer bottles, used condom. The Bahamas is really behind in the times for eco tourism. It appears they are doing alot of work here developing the area but If any Bahamian officials are listening....clean up all the trash and keep doing it.

There is hidden in the Bahamas Clifton Heritage National Park a place like NO OTHER..."Ocean Atlas" is an underwater sculpture by Jason deCaires Taylor that stands 5 metres off the seafloor and weighs more than 60 tons. Unfortunately too few have seen it - YET.In the BREEF Sir Nichollas Nuttall Coral Reef Sculpture Garden we found many man-made reef balls, statues and natural reefs with fish etc. The snorkelling was interesting because you see the fish on the corals and at the statues. The huge Ocean Atlas statue is impressive to snorkel out to, go down to the bottom (look up) then around or just stay on the surface and look down at it. During low tide we liked the look of the statue's reflection under the water's surface. After visiting "Ocean Atlas", relax on the beach and explore the Clifton Heritage National Park site. There are several interesting and informative display areas that help educate the visitors about the islands history. Plan on spending a good part of the day to walk the entire grounds with snorkelling and relaxing on the beach as part of your day.Getting down to the snorkelling site is an easy walk and the helpful staff at the Gift Shop will rent you snorkelling gear (it was listed at $10 when we went) and there is a $10 fee to snorkel the site.We must have looked lost so the friendly security staff were quick to direct us towards the correct path.Take note if the Gift Shop is NOT renting gear or say their is an oil slick DO NOT GO snorkelling - unless you want to spend hours cleaning your gear!!! It was not a small simple gas slick, it was a major film of very messy fuels on the surface when we went at low tide.)The trip to Bahamas Clifton Heritage National Park is very educational and well worth the trip to the west end of New Providence Island. Enjoy the unique snorkelling!

I have had the pleasure of visiting the park a few times and every time was distinctly different. The information ascertain from the tour is exceptionally astounding. The tour guides are filled with historical tidbits that's not well known which makes going back a pleasure. I have had friends visiting the site with me and they too were taken back by the wealth of information and how we all are historically connected.

A developing area. A lot of land clearance is underway. A lot of oil on the beach after South easterly winds. We spent quite a long time removing oil soaked rags from spillage. BREEF have installed the worlds largest underwater statue. There is a great snorkel trail right from the beach. The reef is excellent here. Also a sunken plane from a James Bond movie. Heaps of fish, we saw a row of squid and a turtle. The shop has snacks and beer. Spotless restrooms. Loads of staff - everyone very friendly and welcoming.

The park is still under development, but the potential is huge and it was well worth $10 fee to pay to snorkel to BREER's Ocean Atlas. If you enjoy snorkeling this is something not to be missed.

We booked Cheryl's taxi to bring us to this remote end if the island. Much more reasonable than taking the tour from Clifton. We visited the slave homes and grand house to learn about the history of the region. The real attraction for me is the natural beauty of the area. Virtually private beaches with absolutely stunning views. We spent some time at flipper beach. There are shelters where we had a picnic lunch by the sea.

Spent 2-3- hours there and didn't get to see everything. You get the history of the Lucayans and the early plantations and slave life. They were in the process of clearing our areas for people to picnic (grills available). It was very clean when we were there. I hope they protect the ruins as they aren't roped off and the signs telling you not to climb on the ruins aren't easily seen. The beaches are great - lots of places to explore. Very few people there but we loved it for that very reason. There is a $1 fee to get into some of the ruins. The tour (separate fee) wasn't available when we went (on a Sun).
