A short walk from Atlantas. We walked here from Nassau. Beautiful spots but strangely enough both places had private property signs up??? We disregarded the signs and walked around anyways.

I had a delightful half day visit in mid-January to Paradise Island which included walking to the Versailles Gardens and Cloisters, walking along the shores of Cabbage Beach, and then accessing the Atlantis site via this beach. We arrived by cruise ship in Nassau and then took the very accessible water ferry (turn right as you leave the cruise pier exit, $4 one way for a 15 minute ride) over to Paradise Island. The ferry has a pier under the bridge. Using my Google map print out, I walked about 13 minutes on excellent sidewalks, past lovely landscaped resorts with clipped lawns, palms, and flowering hedges, before seeing the gardens on both sides of the roadway called, Paradise Island Drive. The gardens are located about a half a block past the One and Only Ocean Club driveway. The gardens are signed, but, when I saw the distinctive columns of the Cloisters, I knew we had arrived at the attraction. They are a public park, not part of any resort complex. The Cloisters is a lovely narrow green landscaped park that features the white marble columns from a European cloister as its central focal point. Since the cloisters sits on a raised piece of property there were several sets of stairs to climb going up to the cloisters. Each terraced area is attractively marked with purple flowering clipped bougainvillea hedges. In the center of the cloisters was a marble statue set amidst clipped plants. This structure forms a small square and is neither large nor tall. It is quite intimate, in fact, even though it appears in this spacious setting with its long vistas out to the water. The arches formed by the white columns and grey brickwork formed windows which framed the view out to the harbor or across the road to the Versailles Garden and the ocean beyond. Very beautiful and peaceful; no bustling crowds here. The colors of green, purple, grey, and blue still stand out in my mind. Across the Cloisters is the Versailles Garden. It, too, is a narrow garden with a central walkway that leads up to a lily pad pond and bronze statues. Probably allow 30 minutes to walk around both gardens as they are more of a photostop than a place to linger for long. We walked around the the Ocean Club Resort pool towards Cabbage Beach and strolled the white sandy shoreline past the Riu Resort towards Atlantis where we exited the beach. We could have played in the ocean water or rested on the beach sand had we taken along our swimsuits and towels, but didn't, so I can't comment on the accessibility of public showers and change rooms at this beach. The walkway at the edge of Atlantis is open for non-Atlantis guests to use and it was just grand to get a glimpse of this resort with its pools for sharks, sting rays, waterfalls, and patios. This resort was terribly busy, crowded, and not my idea of a place to relax. We exited through their casino, marvelling at the gorgeous light fixtures, walked through Marina Village, and returned to the water ferry for our ride back to the cruise ship for lunch. A most delightful time at this cruise port all for $8. I gave the gardens a 3 star, but the time spent on Paradise Island as I have described it was a 4 star experience.

Take a stroll through the cloister and enjoy a little quiet away from the hustle of the resorts. Its nicely laid out and landscaped and you can imagine the work that went into the original stone work back in France.

The gardens and cloister is part of the One and Only resort on Paradise Island, and is about a 15-20 minute walk from Atlantis. We walked to it one morning and enjoyed our time on the grounds. We then continued down the road where we could access the eastern end of cabbage beach. We got an ice cream at a little store before entering the beach, then walked the beach back to Atlantis and got back before lunchtime.

The cloisters was very small, 1 structure only. Garden was a little bigger but again, nothing there. Its a good place to visit if you're on Paradise Island. Both places are very well manicured.

Good for a quick visit and do some photography, plus it's free so that always helps. Wouldn't spend more than 30 min here.
