Onuma Quasi National Park is a must visit attraction. Some portions of the lake are frozen when we went there in dec and the view is breathtaking. Do spent some time to stroll around if you have time. There is a souvenir shop which we managed to get some nice keychains.

Onuma Quasi National Park is definitely one of the most beautiful and breathtaking park that I had ever visited. It is amazing. A great place to have a walk/stroll and enjoy the beautiful scenery (mountains, lakes islands , bridges, etc). Check out the photos! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are in Hakodate. It’s worth the trip! There is a small shop that sells souvenirs, snacks and local beer if you are interested.How to get there:From Hakodate JR station, I took the Limited Express Super Hokuto train (1160 yen, one way, non-reserved seat) in 20 mins to Onuma Koen Station.A reminder to check the return schedule because the trains are not so frequent in the evening and it doesn’t run very late, therefore you may miss the train back.If you think this review is helpful, please click on the “helpful” button. Lots of tourist buses drop off sightseers for a short photo shoot at one scenic spot. But this park deserves a few hours at least. Our visit today (mid Dec) showed the park as a winter fairyland. It was fully covered with snow. As we walked around the frozen lakes, with little islands protruding out of the ice, each corner revealed beautiful views. Lunch was in a small restaurant in town with delicious ramen and gyozas. As the sun set, gorgeous hues were cast on the mountain tops. White swans honked as they flew to rest for the night. Well worth a visit if you are in the Hakodate area.

This lake is one of my favorite visit spot in Japan and it has its charm in four different seasons of the year. Last time, I went there in early winter. Despite of the cold weather there, the white, calm and peaceful environment did make me to stay there for over two hours, taking photos as well as having some snack in the lonely lakeside restaurant. Of the four seasons in the year, I do recommend you to visit the park in autumn time when you will find momiji surrounded lakes in the whole area.

We reached the park at about 4pm on a Sunday and it was getting dark as its autumn. Most of the shops were wrapping up for the day and we missed the last boat round the lake. We did manage to do a short walk following a footpath around the boat area and were completely mesmerized by the view. While leaving the place, we saw people lighting up the pumpkins lining the entrance to the park. The pumpkins were setup as it was two days to Halloween. The larger pumpkins had their weight labeled and the heaviest we saw was 198 kg.We saw a shop house bustling with people so we decided to step in to take a look. They were selling food and people were strolling in to eat and enjoy the park in early autumn. The trees in the park have special lighting thrown on them and the pumpkins are all lighted too. It was a lovely sight with the autumn colors. We were initially upset that we missed the beautiful park walk as we arrived late but now we are happy to enjoy the evening events along with locals as the tour buses are now long gone. I will rate this place 10 out of 10 and will definitely visit again.

I like this park because of its different scenery year round. Summer is the best season for hiking and biking. Spring , Fall and winter are different. Take a walk slowly around the lake, Can you hear the thousand wind that blow!

新日本三景にも数えられるだけのことはあり、大沼と駒ケ岳の組み合わせの景色は通年で絶景です。大沼に浮かぶ島の間に橋が架けられており、散策できるようになっています。JR大沼公園駅が観光の拠点です。

先日、家族で「第４９回大沼函館雪と氷の祭典」に行ってきました。この祭典の時期には毎年訪れています。それというのも、子供たちが、大沼の氷を切り出してつくるジャンボすべり台や公園内に多数設けられた、大小様々な氷の滑り台や大きなかまくらを楽しみにしているからです。期間中は出店やイベントなどもありとても賑っています。ここ数年は、特に海外からの観光客も多数訪れていて、多くの子供たちに喜ばれているようです。

函館から特急で20分、普通列車だと40分で到着します。冬の大沼公園は、「大沼」が全面氷結していて真っ白、とてもきれいでした。氷上のアトラクションがいろいろあって、そりやスノーモービルに乗れたりします。私も、生まれて初めてスノーモービルに乗ってみました。簡単な操作で、初めてでも一人で乗れます。ヘルメットと手袋を貸してくれますし、ゆっくり走れば寒くはないです。氷の上に雪が積もって、野ウサギの足跡がそこここにありました。ワカサギ釣りもできます。良く晴れた日だったので、駒ヶ岳のつんととんがった山頂が良く見えましたよ。大沼公園駅の隣にビジターセンターがあり、あったかい室内は新しくきれいで、近辺の店の情報や見どころマップなどが閲覧できて、散策の前に立ち寄る事をお勧めします。あと、列車を利用するなら、着いたとき帰りの列車の時間を確認するのをお忘れなく。

年寄の母親を連れていたので散策路は行っていません。しかし、大沼公園なのモーターボートーに乗りました。駒ヶ岳の頂上に雲がかかり全容が見れなかったのが残念です。晴れた日なら最高だと思います。所要時間は２０分程度です。天気がイマイチだったので評価は３つ星にしました。
