There are a few locations in eastern Hokkaido where you can view the Tancho (Red Head) Crane (Grus Japonesis) during their winter migration (www.japan-guide.com has an excellent writeup). I did not expect to see so many of them and at a relatively close distance. I don't have a "bazooka" lens like most of the other photographers but even managed to get pretty good shots with "just" a 200mm lens. Thot I'd share the GPS coordinates to make it easier for people trying to get here:Akancho Kamiakan (Akan Int’l Crane Ctr) - 43°08'36.6"N 144°08'55.3"E (43.143515, 144.148694) Tsuruimidai (Feeding Station) - 43°10'37.6"N 144°19'13.6"E (43.177125, 144.320451). This is a viewing area by the side of the road. Car park lots are available and no fee is charged. If you are in the Kushiro area in winter, it is definitely worth a visit.

Certainly an awesome sanctuary for the red-head tancho cranes ! And also a perfect venue for wildlife photographers, especially birds photographers. The regal birds come as they please and feed on the field just beyond the safety barriers.For best images of the birds, at least a 400mm lens would be ideal. To preserve the serene ambience of the sanctuary, do engage camera 'silent' mode if avail, and be quiet so as not to distract the birds. Our experienced driver even drove us to a strategic spot at the perimeter some distance away from the sanctuary to prepare for the departure of the tanchos as they flies back to their roosting grounds after feeding. But this requires luck and time availability. There is no entrance fee but do leave a tip after your visit for the bird feed and upkeep of the place,etc. Definitely a highlight of our visit !

雪が降るなか行って来ました。白い背景のタンチョウの群れは、絵を見ているようでした。時々、タンチョウの鳴き声が大きな響きます。現地ならではの経験でした。見学場所にトイレあります。道を挟んでビジターセンターがあります。

１月連休で訪問しました。まじかにタンチョウヅルを見ることができました。タンチョウヅルが優雅に飛んでいく姿は、やはり大自然の中でしか味わえないものです。

伊藤サンクチュアリは間近に鶴の飛来や給餌の様子を観察できます。阿寒国際ツルセンタからも近く、鶴の撮影にはいい場所です。特に夕方はきれいな夕日に照らされて鶴の体がピンク色に染まります。

飛行機が好きです

写真撮るなら夕暮れ時。ここに鶴が来るのは真冬ですから、一に防寒ニに防寒ですが、寒さ対策をしっかりして日没の前後の夕景を背に立つ鶴を楽しみましょう。

昨年に続いて丹頂鶴を見に行きました。何度見ても丹頂鶴は可憐で美しいと思います。特に餌をまいた後に鶴の動きが活発になり、あちこちで見られた鶴の舞はとても良かったです。餌をまく朝に訪れるのがお勧めです。

噂には聞いていましたが行ってびっくりしました。！！ものすごくたくさんの丹頂鶴が自然の中にいました。さすがに名前の通りの鶴居村です。駐車場もあり間近で見ることができます。

ここ数年、丹頂撮影で東京から出かけています。鶴の舞に虜になっています。オシドリ夫婦と言いますが、丹頂鶴の方が家族愛にあふれていると感じます。飛び立つとき、親子でクークーと合図をして飛び立ちます。近くに日本野鳥の会の観察所があるので、寒いときはそちらにお邪魔するといいと思います。丹頂鶴についていろんなことを学べると思います。丹頂鶴を渡り鳥と思っている方は一度立ち寄るといいと思います。
