We stopped at Riceland on our way from Takikawa to Asahikawa. It was snowing and the roads a bit slippery so we stopped for coffe and a break. The ground floor shop had some lovely local souvenirs, sold locally produced creamy icecream and other foods. We had nice coffee and the children hot chocolate with icecream after. There is a machine at the far end of the building that shows you how to husk and polish rice. For about 300 yean you can purchase an amount of rice and watch the process. The final end product is polished white rice which you can put into a celephane bag to bring home with you. There was also a small area at the side that sold local fresh vegetables. Tourist information is also available. We enjoyed this short break on our journey.
