Our taxi driver tour guide took us here on our tour of the city of Belize. It is a nice piece of colonial history and an interesting building built by slave labor. We did not get to explore the cemetery. There is some nice stained glass and mahogany wood carvings. Worth the visit. They do ask for a small donation which we were glad to contribute.

The simple architecture and realization of how old the actual building is and how many people have passed through the doors seeking guidance is a peaceful experience. Well worth a stop and visit.

This historical landmark is currently operational as a place of worship and school. It was on our tour with Calypso Train Tours and a wonderful photo op. Our guide was very knowledgeable with the cathedral's history and explained that the cathedral was built with bricks that used to ballast slave ships. It was very interesting. The cathedral is the oldest church in British Honduras, founded in 1812 which then became Belize, a commonwealth. St. John's is located across the street from the Governor's Mansion. Its magnificient architecture has stain glass and mahogany. The beautiful mahogany front doors is a welcoming site. We did not enter since it was not one of the "stops". But would have loved to see the inside of the cathedral.
