Went to the cave in the rainy season August 2013 when the river was completely full. We only were able to swim part way into the first part of the cave. We did this in turns, but the current was very strong and looked quite dangerous for the weaker swimmers in our group. Afterwards, we went back diwnstream and played around in the lagoon and jumped off the high platform into the water.Great fun, but would not recommend to weak swimmers at all

Awesome first Time on both - Cave Tourguides Francisco and Peter did a great job showing us the three waterfalls inside the cave - we got there at 11am - park at the white market hut directly next to the creek !After that we did Zip Lining basicly directly next to the cave and across the river with Byron and Pedro - both certified for this The Zip Lines are up to 95 Feet above ground and go over the whole canyon! As a treat we got to eat local chicken curry at Franciscos Aunt's next to a Hummingbird nest Overall pretty neat setup and not touristy or overrun by cruise ship tourists !The money stays local since this is all run via the families of the Blue Creek Village !

My boyfriend and I visited the Blue Creek Caves a couple weeks ago, and had never experienced anything like it! We went into the cave with two local guides (they live right next to the river), and I wouldn't have done it without them. We payed BZ $20 per person for the guides, life jackets, and headlamps, and it was more than worth the money. They knew the currents and turns of the cave like the back of their hand, and helped everyone in our big group navigate the tricky spots. The hike up to the cave was beautiful (although it was really muddy), and the pools at the entrance of the cave would've been a great spot to hang out on a warmer day!

My first cave experience was Blue Creek Cave, and the bar has been set very high. The trek to the cave was lovely, a beautiful walk through the jungle. The cave itself was amazing. My guides (Vince and Lazarus) grew up in Blue Creek and knew exactly what to do. The water was refreshing, and it was so surreal to swim in a cave. I would highly recommend it!

Just check out the water lowel of the Cave, get some local (first hand information). Important anyone who wants to go into the Cave need a permit from the Institute of Archaeology in Belmopan (check with Sylvia Batty) or any Tour Operator. You need a licensed Tour Guide to go into the Cave. That Guide has to work under a Tour Operation, he can't conduct Tours on his own. It's mandatory to wear Helmets, Life Jackets and have Headlamps. But an impressive Cave if you reach all the waterfalls inside the Cave. Mostly that can be done between January and May of each year...

We enjoyed our visit to Blue Creek and the Ho'keb Ha cave with José, a guide who works with Bruno Kuppinger. He made the drive to and from part of the joy and we loved the hikes in and out as well as the time spent swimming in the cave. Our tour included a wonderful Belizean/East Indian lunch on the way back to Punta Gorda. This trip gives a nice cross section of the beautiful scenery on offer in Toledo District - recommended!

Blue Creek Cave is our first caving experience in Belize and it was great. Most tour operators tell you to join a tour because you need a tour guide to do the caving here. We decided not to do that; we had a rental car so we drove ourselves to Blue Creek Cave. Once we parked, we found a local guide who lives in the houses by the parking lot. His name is Sylvano and he was great; his family was one of the first one to help discover the cave so he had a lot of history for us. And he only charged BZ$60 for 3 of us (2 adults + 1 child), including the tour, safety vest and headlights. It took about 30 minutes to hike to the cave entrance. At that point, we got into the vest and put on our head lights. We then enter the cave by swimming; this cave requires you to swim basically 75% of the time. There are 6 waterfalls in this cave and basically we swim and walk over stones to get to the next waterfall. We only went to the 3rd one and decided to return. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.

Silvano Sho lives in Blue Creek so if you contact him directly, he can take you on a very personalized tour of the cave. This is also a way to support the local Mayan villagers rather than booking through a resort or travel company. My two kids loved swimming through this wet cave with their headlamps and life jackets (supplied by Silvano). It was an adventurous (yet safe) experience they had never had before.Contact: silvanosho@gmail.com669-5407637-0014

It's a great place to visit, if you want to swim inside the Cave make sure your Tour Operator has a permit (issued from the Institute of Archaeology) and the Tour Operator provides the Tour Guides with proper equipment like helmets, headlamps and life jackets and make sure the Ratio is in place,....not more than 8 guests with 1 licensed Tour Guide is going inside the Cave.

During a day trip to Toledo from Placencia we were taken here by some local Mayan guides that we had made friends with and little did we know the treat we were in for...We arrived and were lead through beautiful trees by our guides until we got to a beautiful blue river. The river was so clear you could see the fish swimming from quite far away....I was already impressed, I thought we had arrived...but no there was further to go and much more to this beautiful place. So again we started, through the forest and then we began climbing the rocks until into our view came a brilliant rock face and cave opening. We climbed up, which at times was tricky but well worth it, as from high up on the rocks we looked back and got a beautiful view of the blue river we had left behind. We continued to the grand cave opening...that's the only way it can be described. The cave opening was wide and very high (you had to tilt your head right back to take in), with overgrowth growing around the opening...it really was something very special and we were the only ones there!!! I felt like Indian Jones on a mission...was just so magnificent. Our guides then proceeded to get into the water...I wasn't expecting this and hadn't prepared for this at all, but I thought 'what the hell, i'm going to regret not getting in' so I did!! We all swam around in the cave entrance and just around the corner was the deeper cave entrance....which I must say was dark and scary (we didn't have flash lights). but as our local Mayan guides swam in carelessly I was quietly confident I would be just fine. And so I proceeded to swim into the darkness of the cave, my heart pounding...I made it in and found a rock to sit on and as I looked out from inside the cave to where I had swum from, my eyes adjusted and it really wasn't all that dark!!! We swam here for some time having fun, jumping in from the rock...even getting the courage to swim further into the 'dark bit' and then swim back out...our hearts pounding. We then decided to leave but not before taking some really beautiful pictures...and playing on the rope swing (see my pictures). And as we walked back to our car...a group of around a dozen people and a guide were approaching and it was then that I realised how lucky we had been to have had this spectacular experience all to ourselves!!!This was the most thrilling experience I've had whilst in Belize, was just so very special. I really recommend anyone travelling to Belize to visit Toledo and make an effort to find Blue Creek Cave...you really will be happy you did!!**My top tips for visiting Blue Creek**1. Before embarking on your walk spray yourself with insect repellent.2. Take as little as possible with you to the cave (if you're a small group) as you can't swim into the cave with your stuff. The only thing we took was a camera (make sure it has protection around it)3. Wear a swimming costume/trunks under your clothes so you can swim.4. Wear shoes you can climb the rocks with, flip flops will not do!!5. make sure you have a towel and spare clothes back at your transportation, otherwise you'll be enjoying a soggy trip back to your hotel!!6. Go early: we did and maybe that's why we were lucky enough to have the place to ourselvesAnd above all enjoy Blue Creek Cave it really is a true Belizean adventure experience!!!
