Get there early as the ship rush hour ends rather early. We have done the canal crossing on a cruise before, but this is a completely different perspective.

Crossing the Canal is a experience of a lifetime. we were aboard a big cruise ship and it took quite a while to the crossing from the Pacific to the Caribbean Sea.We could watch the locks opening and closing and the ship going down and up. We were at deck 7 and sometimes it was really deck 7 or times we were at ground level. Watching "the trains " that pull the ships is also awsome .Fantastic experience ! Try it if you can .You won't regret it.

Definitely consider taking the partial canal tour. It's expensive ($150 pp), but absolutely worth it. The guide is a wealth of knowledge and you can hear him really well throughout the boat. He is happy to answer questions. They provide breakfast and lunch. It's truly amazing to go through the locks with huge container ships, tugboats, tiny sail boats, luxury yachts and yourself.

Amazing day trip. Good tour guide who spoke English and Spanish. Going through locks was something to not miss. Mini breakfast around 11a and lunch offered had rice, veggies and chicken included in price. Sodas ans bottled water plentiful. Could buy beer. Bus trip to and from was air conditioned.

The foresight, the engineering, the execution - 100 years later the Canal still functions as it did on day one. An amazing feat!
