I live in Xi'an and had been looking forward to going to the false summit of Mount Taibai for a long while. I'd read blogs that showed what a beautiful place it was. After spending money to get there, stay at a hotel, pay the 100rmb park entrance, 120rmb return bus ride, 90rmb cable car ride (these are per person prices) we finally started hiking. It's all stairs - wooden. The views are spectacular - however, at around 3300m you reach a little hut, on that hut is a sign that says "No Foreigners - Chinese Only"... I'm sorry, I love China and I love the Chinese people, but this is a disgrace. I wouldn't ever ever go back to this place. We were physically pushed back with no explanation as to why. There is no pre-warning about this below. Funnily enough, one of the lines of promotion that this national park uses is "International resort and recreation zone"... sorry, it's not international at all.
