If you go to the city and port you will surely be wondering what people like about it as that part is a pretty non descript chinese city. Coming from Dalian there are two access ways - in land ( sort of) which takes you past the cherry orchards with heaps of roadside farmers selling cherries - buy the biggest and darkest ones - i got slugged 45 per jin but were probably the best cherries in Dalian. The ones for 15 to 30 are not big or fully ripe. The other way is along the coast which takes about an hour. Along the way you get some great scenery and at Lu Shun there is a great fishermans fish market. The fish and other aquatic lifeforms are great and cheap. Best part. You can buy it, stroll across the road to any number of seafood restaurants and they will cook it for you - for a price but nothing outrageous. This appears to be standard practice as heaps of other diners came in loaded with bags of seafood for the place i was in to cook and eat. You can also buy dried seafood and some exotic sort of sea creature paste that was actually delicious. Taxi from youhao square dalian return including fish market help and waiting was 220rmb. Guessing that puts the price the same as a dalian restaurant but as an outing well worth it. It is pretty well unlikely a taxi will take you only one way as it is far from dalian with no return fare. If you do go oneway be prepared to pay over and above the taxi fare by up to 50%. Cheaper to get him/her to hang around.
